“Colors?” Baron questioned.

“Everyone has a color,” Dorrie said. “They can see if someone is sick or weak, as that color turns almost white.”

“How fascinating,” Baron said.

“Dorrie’s color was a great deal paler when we arrived,” Devon added. “Eden, Warwick, and Alice have the gift of hearing,” he continued. “Dorrie and Cam have the heightened sense of smell. Essie and Kate taste.”

His eyes went to Dorrie. Could this be true? And yet he’d seen Lilly heal her. Felt something shift in the air around him.

“We are stronger when we are together. Stronger when joined with Ravens,” Devon continued. “When we are all united, we are powerful.”

“Sinclairs marry Ravens,” Ash said slowly. “This is why, isn’t it?”

Devon nodded. “Sinclairs marry Ravens, and usually after they have rescued them in some way.”

Ash’s eyes shot to Dorset. She’d saved him.

“So don’t let my sister save you unless you want to marry her, Ash,” Essie said with a smile.

Devonshire Sinclair, however, was not smiling. He was looking at Ash, his green eyes alive with color. He kept his face expressionless.

“Dorset was shot with an arrow and stopped breathing,” Essie said, seemingly oblivious of the tension suddenly inside Ash. “The arrow was actually meant for Somer. It was all connected to a case they were investigating.”

“What?” He actually shook his head at that.

“I died. Somer kept me alive by breathing into my mouth.”

Ash thought back to when they’d made love. There had been no mark from an arrow on Dorrie’s body.

“I’ve heard of that,” Baron said from beside him. “But I’ve never seen it done.”

“I’ve performed it a few times,” Essie said conversationally, as if they were discussing a dinner menu. “I will explain it to you.”

Ash couldn’t believe what he was hearing.

“Lilly arrived in time to heal her, but it was the power of all of us together in that room that helped her.”

He looked to Lilly, who nodded.

“Lilly and Nicholas are both RavensandSinclairs due to an affair between two ancestors of ours centuries ago,” Devon said. “Nicholas has visions of things that are about to happen or have happened.”

Ash pinched the bridge of his nose. How was this possible?

“It is a lot to take in, but we speak the truth,” Somer said, returning with a tray of food, teapot and cups. She carried it to Lilly.

“You need time to understand what you have both learned,” Lilly said, taking a thick slice of bread and jam. “We will be happy to answer any questions you have. James and the others also. They tend to be a bit touchy on the subject of Sinclairs saving them, however.”

“Cam has a great deal of fun with this, as you can imagine.” Essex sighed.

“But enough of that for now,” Devon said as if they’d discussed a day trip to Bath. “I want to know what happened?” Devon said. “How is it you were stabbed, Dorrie?”

“I didn’t get to her soon enough,” Ash said. “I knew Brunt was a danger to her but hadn’t realized she’d gone there. I heard the scream and ran but he had an arm around her throat. I didn’t see the knife right off.”

“This is not your fault. You told me not to move, and I did,” Dorrie said.

He was standing there talking to them like he had not just witnessed a miracle. That they hadn’t explained the anomaly that was their family. Clearly he was in shock.

“Ash told you not to move and you did.” Devon glared at Dorrie. “You are usually the twin who does as she is told.”
