He moved reluctantly to the foot of the bed where Baron stood. Somer was talking to Dorrie, hugging her close.

“Look inside her, Dev. Baron and I don’t think there is bleeding, but you will see.”

Ash shot Baron a look, but the man was focused on Lord Sinclair. What did Essie mean, he could see if she was bleeding internally?

Devon placed his hand on Somer’s head as he bent to kiss Dorrie.

“All will be all right now, love.” He then rose to look at her body.

Ash could only see the side of the man, but he saw the eye closest to him. Suddenly it was bright with vivid color. Almost unnatural.

“There is no bleeding, but her color is weak.”

“Perhaps I can help with that.” Lady Sinclair stepped closer. “Hello, darling.” She kissed Dorrie’s cheek.

“Wait.” Lord Sinclair looked at Ash and Baron. “What you are about to see will shock you, so if you have no wish to be here while it is done, leave now. If you stay, you will learn my family’s secrets.”

“We already know you are special, my lord,” Baron said with a calm Ash wasn’t feeling.

“Your secret will be safe with us,” Ash managed to get out. He had no idea what the man was about, but he wasn’t leaving her.

“If you told anyone, they would likely commit you to Bedlam anyway,” Somer said.

“All right now, Lilly my love. Essie, take Somer’s hand. Somer mine.” Lord Sinclair moved to stand beside his wife and placed a hand on her neck.

“I can heal by myself.” Dorrie struggled to rise, but her twin held her down.

“We cannot risk the infection. Lie still now,” Somer said.

“Just a little healing. I will be fine.” Lady Sinclair took off her gloves and laid her hand on Dorrie’s side, over the knife wound.

Ash felt something swirl around him. Power, he named it.

Lady Sinclair’s hands began to shake, and her face lost its color.

“That will do, my sweet.” Dev lifted her in his arms and carried her to a chair.

“I am well,” she whispered. “It is not like the arrow.”

“Somer, go to the kitchen and make tea for Lilly,” Essie said. “And bring any food you find.”

Somer hurried from the room.

Ash stood rooted to the spot, his eyes on Dorrie’s stomach. There was only a small line, almost a scratch, now. Lilly had healed her, but how? It wasn’t possible? A person couldn’t heal by touch. And yet he’d seen it.

He watched Essie help Dorrie sit up, and her brother placed some pillows behind her. Her face was still pale, but her eyes were no longer filled with pain as they found his. She even smiled.

“I’m sure you will have questions,” Devon said. “I will attempt to explain.”

“I doubt I could voice them,” Ash rasped.

Ash and Baron listened as he talked about King Edward and a Sinclair saving a Raven, which he already knew about, but not the rest.

“The Sinclairs developed heightened senses from our association with the Ravens. We were chosen to protect them, and the senses are a result of that… we believe.”

“Senses?” Ash managed to get out.

“Harry, Wolf, and I have the heightened sense of sight. We see long distances, at night, and see in colors.”
