“Nothing an aspirin won’t take care of,” she says honestly.
The slap to her face is red, but it’s the punch to her ribs that I’m most concerned about.
“You’re all going to die!” Gideon screams from the floor as I roll my eyes and grind my shoe into his face. I’m not wearing fancy shoes, something no one noticed.
My steel toe combat boots won’t put up with his bullshit, and I stomp on his face until he shuts up, effectively passing out.
Lifting my foot, I see that there are footprints on his skin, and bruises are beginning to develop. That’s not the worst he’ll receive from the Widows soon, and I have no sympathy for him.
“The men in this room are all dead, while we’re not,” Silva says. “It doesn’t sound like we’re the ones in danger.”
“We’re secure here, guys. I need a direction to haul this piece of shit out of here,” I say, knowing the guys will hear me.
“I’m coming,” Sloane says. “I hear he’s a big asshole. I’ll carry him out. It’s a little wild out here. We’re going to take this party to the basement while Gary’s men fight it out.”
“Need anything, Spitfire?”Syrus asks.
“Ah, how far does ‘anything’ go?” she asks, looking murderous.
She has streaks of blood on her face and neck, but I don’t think she’s noticed yet. Silva has shown me that killing people who deserve it doesn’t eat at her conscience at all. She’s the world’s most perfect woman for us.
Exchanging guns with her, I change the magazine out for a full one, and then do the same for myself. I want her to be ready if we run into anything, and that means not running out of bullets.
“It means the solar system is the limit, baby girl,” Syrus says honestly. I can imagine that he sounds a little exasperated, because he’d pull down the sun for her if she asked.
“I want Viv and Beth if they’re alive.”
“Yes,” Lexi growls, her tone showing that she’s perfectly fine. I guess we’re all linked up again.
“We’ll make it happen,” Kyren says. “Over and out, just for you Izzy.”
Smirking, I turn and open the door just as Sloane moves to open it.
“Thanks for the assist. Dead weight is always a bitch to move,” I say cheerfully, stepping back.
“Everyone okay…What’s wrong with you?” he asks, his eyes on Silva as she rubs her ribs.
“There’s a lot wrong with me,” she says with a tight smile. “I’m fine for now.”
Apparently, he knows better than to argue with either of the Davenport twins, and he walks over to hoist Gideon up in a fireman’s carry.
“We’re headed to the basement,” he grunts. “The door is just down the hall for it. Let’s go.”
As you wish.Alphas are always so damn bossy, huh?
Chapter Thirty-One
Syrus
Ihave five Widows with me when the first signs that Silva is in trouble reach me over the comms unit in my ear.
“Kid gloves are off, ladies,” I murmur. “We’re headed to the library. Shoot to kill.”
“Silva,” Lexi whispers as she hears her scream.
“Focus,” Luna hisses. “That’s the best way to help her.”
Nodding, Lexi stands taller and pulls out her ear comm to slip it into her pocket. I suppose it’s easier as things progress than to hear everything happening to Silva and being unable to help. If I wasn’t such a glutton for punishment and a point person on this mission, I might do the same thing.
