So, the app couldn’t just make magic happen. While disappointing, that wasn’t surprising. Controlling a storm was a big ask, even for someone with powerful magic. Rememberingthat the app had been able to contact her mate, she tried that next.

Can you get a message to my mate and let him know I’m in trouble and need him to come find me?

There was another brief pause, then a message appeared.

Message sent. Assistance is on the way.

Relief flooded her. Since Remy wasn’t able to practice with the team while he was on the injured list, he probably had his phone with him. Once he got the message, it wouldn’t take him long to get there. She muttered a curse when she realized she should have asked him to bring someone skilled enough to counter the storm, but she hadn’t thought of it in time.

Remy possessed strong magic, but he wasn’t very experienced when it came to using it. Altering the weather was difficult, especially when it came to a storm of this magnitude. She could try to teach him how to do it, though it really would be easier if she could do it herself. But they would have to figure out what was blocking her magic first.

She let out a gasp of surprise and stood up as the web of roots suddenly parted, opening a doorway. A few seconds later, her thoroughly soaked mate was dragged through the opening by several vines that were wrapped around his legs. Lying on the ground, he panted for breath and blinked up at her.

“What…the…fuck?”

“You got here fast,” she commented, trying her best to sound calm when she was feeling anything but.

Opening his arms wide, he growled, “Not fast enough. Get over here!”

His growling command made her pounce on him. He barely even grunted as she landed on him with an audible thud. He wrapped his arms around her tight, giving them both thecomfort they needed. Even when the vines slowly receded, they remained where they were sprawled out on the ground together.

“I’m never letting you out of my fucking sight ever again.” When she just hummed in agreement, he continued ranting. “I’m not kidding. I’m going to put you in my pocket and carry you around wherever I go.”

That made her laugh. “That would have been a lot easier when I was pixie size.”

“I don’t care.” He grabbed her and kissed her hard. “Thank the gods you are alive and breathing. What the fuck just happened? I was already on my way here when I got the message from the damn app. Then, I realized I couldn’t contact you, and I almost lost my fucking mind. I teleported here and took the portal down to find you and walked into that fucking hurricane. Thank the gods those vines dragged me in here, or I never would have found you.”

“My magic isn’t working again,” she muttered against his neck. “I could only reach you through the app.”

Grabbing hold of her shoulders, he stared up at her in alarm. His gaze tracked lower, then his eye widened in alarm. He sat up and reached for her amulet. He tried to tug it off her, but it remained in place. His eyes narrowed as he used more force to pull, but the chain still didn’t break.

“What—?”

“It’s glowing. I think this fucking amulet is cursed. We have to get it off you.”

As if responding to his attack, the pressure in her chest immediately increased until it was almost unbearable. It felt like something had wrapped around her throat, completely cutting off her air. Her vision began to blur, and she clawed at her neck in desperation.

With a growl, Remy grabbed the chain with both hands and pulled with all his might, adding a touch of his own magic toincrease his strength. He was finally able to tear the amulet off of her, the glow disappearing the instant the chain broke. Wanting it away from them, he flung it across the space. Instead of hitting the wall of roots, a small hole opened up, allowing the cursed amulet to fly out into the storm.

Wrapping an arm around her waist, he pulled her tight against his chest and buried his face against her neck. Even that wasn’t close enough to satisfy him. He wanted to fuse them together until no space existed between them.

“I love you, Starla. I love you so fucking much that it scares me. I can’t lose you. It would be the end of me if anything happened to you.”

“Nothing will happen to me,” she assured. “I’m right here.”

Trembling, he nuzzled against her, inhaling her sweet scent to try to calm the raging emotions swirling within him. He couldn’t stand knowing the amulet had blocked their bond. Now that he could sense her again, even that deep closeness couldn’t quench the overwhelming need he felt for her. It was a gnawing ache inside him, a desperate longing to fully merge with her and erase any distance that might linger between them.

He needed to claim her again to find solace from the fear and chaos that had just threatened to tear them apart. To reaffirm their bond, forgetting everything else while they lost themselves in one another.

Taking several deep breaths, he tried to calm his racing heart. It wasn’t working, though. The adrenaline surging through his system was making it impossible for him to calm his turbulent emotions.

Giving in to his desire for her, he claimed her mouth in a brutal kiss. A surge of satisfaction swept through him when she wrapped her arms around his neck and clung to him. His mate didn’t try to soothe the beast raging within him. Instead, she met his passion with her own.

“I need you, mate,”he admitted.“Right here, right now.”

“I need you, too, Remy. You are my mate, my love, my everything.”

She returned his kisses with equal fervor, each stroke of her tongue a soothing balm against his frayed nerves, even as it stoked his burning need to possess her. Desperate to feel her bare skin under his seeking palms, he used his magic to get rid of both of their clothes. He growled at the feeling of her soft skin against his, but it still wasn’t enough to satisfy him.
