I placed a hand on my chest, feigning shock. “Dad. How could you jump right to that topic? Do you really want to know?”

He recoiled as if I were a snake about to bite him. His chair toppled over as he stood. “Fuck no.”

I couldn’t hold it in any longer and laughed, rushing into his arms as he chuckled. “You walked into that.”

“I sure the fuck did.”

“Why don’t we agree that certain subjects are off limits, and sex is one of them? About either of us.”

“Done.” He squeezed me before dropping his arms. “Revenant is right, you know. You are a ball buster.”

“Learned from the best.”

“Yeah, you didn’t stand a chance with Bulldog and Hades raising you, did you? Poor kid.”

“I had the best childhood, so don’t go messing up all those warm and happy memories,” I chided.

“Yeah? You sure?”

“Yes. You and Dad were always there. Well, you both and Void.”

“He’s loved you from the beginning. Anyone with eyes could see he never thought of you as a sister.”

“I never really thought of him as a brother either.”

Hades was about to reply when I heard gunfire outside. “Hit the floor!”

My gaze bounced around the bar. Where were Rev and Diesel? Was Void watching the cameras?

Wait. “Who? The traffickers?”

He didn’t answer. “Come on. I’ve got a place you can hide.”

I wanted to refuse. “What about Sydney?” And everyone else?

“She’s got Raptor, War, and Trojan to protect her.” He reached for my hand and pulled me down the hall. “Just a little farther, baby girl. Trust me.”

I did. I just didn’t want to feel like I was placing everyone in danger. What if those traffickers started killing people to get me to cooperate?

The hall should have been empty. If not, only club members and their bunnies or ol’ ladies. But as Hades and I rushed toward the door that led to his panic room, we found a stranger waiting for us.

“Hello, Hades.”

I froze, wondering why that voice sounded familiar.

Hades stood in front of me. “This isn’t about Becca. Leave her out of it.”

“I can’t do that. You made it about her when you killed my brother and then stole his child.”

“What?” I gasped. What the hell did that mean?

“He never told you the truth, Becca. Your father was a powerful man. He died before he could bring you back home.”
