I close my eyes, letting my head fall. I take a couple of deep breaths. Getting no reaction from me, they get bored, storming out of the room, slamming the door and locking it behind them.
I look around the room for something, anything that I can use. But the only thing I can see is a random pipe on the floor, tucked up against the side wall. It’s no match for the gun, but if only one of them comes in here or I can get the upper hand, maybe I can make a run for it.
It’s not long before they’re back, I feel my anxiety build as he walks over to me and crouches down to my level, his face a mask of disgust as he looks me over. "All you had to do was just fucking die. You should have been in the house that night, you were all meant to die," he bites.
"And all you had to do was just ask," I snap back.
"What?" he questions, confusion filling his features.
"The money, our inheritance. All you had to do was say you wanted the money. I would have signed it all over to you. The money isn't important, my brother is," I say flatly.
His hand shoots out so quick I don't have time to react. He grabs my face again and pushes it against the wall.
"You're a fucking entitled little bitch, aren't you? You know after that loser failed to kill you and your brother, the plan was to kill you both when Andrea took you to Scotland, but some fucking nosy neighbour interrupted them. If only you'd all died in that fire like I’d planned." His tone is full of venom.
"The fire in our garage a few weeks before my parents were killed… that was you?" I ask, remembering the night it went up in flames. He doesn't say anything, he just smirks at me.
"About this money," he starts, and I shake my head at him. Partly because I'm not surprised he's already back to it, and partly because I'm telling him no.
"What the fuck are you shaking your head at? You said you would give us the money," he snaps at me.
"No, I said if you had asked then I would have given you the money, not that I will give you it." I laugh before continuing. "You can't have it, because I don't have any of it. It's all gone," I tell him with a smile.
My aunt grabs my hair and yanks my head to the side. My scalp burns, and I'm pretty sure she's yanked a few hairs out. "What the fuck do you mean it’s all gone?" she yells.
"Let me make something clear, little girl," my uncle spits. "If you don't sign over the money to us, we'll grab Mason, we'll kill him, make you watch, and then we'll kill you. We just need the fucking money and then we'll be gone."
"You can try and grab him, but he has more people to protect him than you can even fucking imagine. You go near him and they'll fucking kill you both. And as for the money, I signed it over to the Soulless Knights. So, if you want that money, then I suggest you ask them for it. But I already know what the answer will be." I laugh at the shocked looks on their faces. They’re shit out of luck and they know it. There is nothing they can do, they'll never get the money.
"I'm going to fucking kill you," he whispers into my face.
"So kill me," I respond.
"You'd really leave Mason alone?" he asks, surprised.
I smile. "He's not alone. He'll never be alone, because he has Andrea, Arthur Black, and the Soulless Knights to watch over him. I'm not worried."
"Fuck," he yells, pushing my face away and storming out of the room. I look up at my aunt. She doesn’t say anything, she just slaps me and follows him out the door.
Chapter Seventy-Two
I've been sat at this piano for two hours, gently tapping at random keys. I should be helping sort out the move into here, but I just can't bring myself to do it. I want to be out on the road, looking for her, but Prez stopped me. He's right, I'd just be riding around aimlessly. I have no idea where she is.
"Ice."
I spin, hearing Mason behind me. "You okay, buddy?" I ask. It’s a fucking stupid question but I don't know what else to say to him.
He comes over and climbs onto the seat beside me. His fingers start to run across the keys. "You know how to play, bud?" I ask.
He doesn't look at me, just shakes his head. "Not really. I used to watch Nova play. I'm just trying to remember what she does." His voice is sad, and it fucking breaks me.
"I'm sorry, Mase. I wish I knew where she was," I tell him, pulling him to me, giving him a side hug.
"She's all I've got, Ice. I don't have anyone else," he whispers.
"Hey." I turn to face him, grabbing his face to look at me. "You're not alone, you've got all of us. I know you need Nova, and we're doing everything we can to find her, but until we get her back, you need to know you have us all."
He doesn't get a chance to respond, Nitro comes through the door with Wrath and Marissa, and they make a beeline for us. "Hey, buddy, you wanna come with me, let the guys talk?" Marissa reaches for Mase, but he holds onto my arm.
