“We never said we were exclusively dating, so I suppose he could still see her again romantically. I just don’t see him as the type. He barely has time for our ASL lessons; I doubt he’d have time to date two women.”

“Will you still be doing your sign language lessons?”

“Yeah, but he didn’t think it would be cool if we made out in his office during the workday, so we’ll need to plan something else.”

“He said he wanted to make out with you?” Mercedes had been rinsing her mug in the sink but whipped around at that.

Her brother’s pounding footsteps caught her attention.Who wants to make out with you?

Mercedes shot back to her chair. “OMG, go away. We are having girl talk here, and we’re just at the good part.”

Great. I love girl talk.Evan plunked himself in another of the kitchen chairs.Who wants to make out with you? I’ll punch him.

Carli rolled her eyes at her brother’s caveman display. “Didn’t you hear Mercedes? Go away.”

Instead, he glared at her friend.Who?

“The sexy doctor.” Darn her traitor roommate.

The rich, hearing doctor? You’ve known this guy for what…two weeks and you’re already making out with him?

“Two months today, actually.”

“Oh, it’s your anniversary.” Mercedes clapped and bounced on her seat. “How exciting.”

Evan looked confused.Your anniversary? Of the day you met? What crazy person celebrates that?

Turning to her brother, she frowned. “Why are you here?”

Mom wanted me to pick you up, on account of you having a junk piece of car. She didn’t want to take a chance you might not make it over to help her with the baking.

“Were you planning on going there, anyway?”

Of course.

Carli took a last sip of her coffee and put her mug in the sink. “To help us bake?” Since when did Evan bake?

No, to help you taste test everything. It’s a tough job, but someone’s got to put their life on the line, so nothing poisonous gets out there.

She punched him in the arm. “After that crack, you think you’re actually getting some of our extras? Highly unlikely.”

Mom will give me some. I’m her baby boy. Are you ready to go?

“It’s only nine o’clock. Do I look like I’m ready to go?” Her hair was a riot of untamed curls, and she was wearing her slippers and rattiest pajamas.

I’ve seen you worse. Evan snatched a Pop-Tart from the cabinet, possibly to avoid her smacking him again.

“I still need to take a shower. I forgot I told Mom I’d help her bake today.”

Evan smirked.Because you were too busy thinking about making out with the sexy doctor?

“Wait,” Mercedes stood and held her hand up. “You never told me how his kiss was. Or how many you got.”

“I can’t talk about that in front of my brother. You’ll have to wait until later.”

The glare her friend sent Evan was lethal.

As she shuffled down the hall to gather her things for a shower, her mind wandered to those kisses she’d gotten last night from Blake. She couldn’t wait until later either. To see him again.
