“Are you saying we neutralize one another?” Eva quirked an eyebrow. “That we should mix and see what happens?” Amusement underlined the words, but a dark look flickered in Eva’s eyes, and Lily wondered if she was remembering the last time that had happened.
Remembering Lily’s tongue stroking against hers, Lily’s hands on her skin, and Lily burned with the memory of it, especially now, with Eva so close, her perfume invading her senses.
“I don’t know.” Lily barely recognized her own voice, low and breathy, lost in the gray of Eva’s eyes.
They stood on a precipice, one they kept finding themselves returning to, no matter what they tried.
Maybe they needed to try something new.
“Maybe we should try.”
Eva’s eyebrows twitched upwards, but her gaze dropped to Lily’s lips. “I don’t think that’s a good idea.”
“Neither do I.” It was a terrible idea, in fact. The worst she’d ever had, yet—there was a part of her that still wanted it. Which was absurd. Lily’s heart was beating so fast, it was a wonder Eva couldn’t hear it, her throat tight and her mouth dry, anticipation humming beneath the surface of her skin.
“But we can’t keep ending up like this.” Lily couldn’t stand it.
“No. I suppose you’re right.”
“So, scientifically speaking,” Lily said, gaze falling to Eva’s lips. “We should try an alternative approach.”
God, what was she doing? Something stupid, something reckless, something completely unlike her.
Eva took a breath, and Lily waited. Was she about to agree? Was she about to scoff in Lily’s face, turn on her heel and insist this was all a giant joke? Was she—?
Eva leaned forward and kissed her.
* * *
This is the worst idea she’d ever had, Eva thought, as she dragged Lily over to a darkened corner of the balcony and pressed her bodily against the wall.
A terrible idea, as a thigh slipped between Eva’s legs and a tongue licked into her mouth, Lily’s skin soft and warm beneath her searching fingertips, but Eva didn’t know how to stop now she’d started.
Eva pressed closer, and Lily shifted her hands to Eva’s ass, digging her nails in to pull Eva into a slow grind that set her whole body alight.
Lily lifted one of her legs, resting her foot against the wall, pressing her thigh firmly against Eva’s center. The friction had Eva’s eyes rolling, and she dropped one of her hands to Lily’s other thigh, slipping her fingers beneath the silken material of Lily’s dress to rake across her skin.
The last time they’d kissed, Eva hadn’t allowed herself to touch Lily, because in her head that made it more real, felt like admitting defeat, that Eva wanted her, but the rock of her hips had already given the game away, so Eva didn’t hold herself back anymore.
Eva settled her other hand on Lily’s chest, cupping one of her full breasts, a groan echoing into her mouth and a nipple stiffening beneath her palm. Lily arched into her, and Eva could feel slick heat against her thigh, wondered how quickly Lily would fall apart when Eva slid her fingers between her legs.
“Sh-should we not… Fuck!” Lily snapped her jaw shut when Eva trailed her lips over it, tongue slipping free to taste the skin of her neck. “Should we not move this elsewhere?”
“I’m good with here.”
“What if—God—someone comes looking for us?”
“They won’t.” Not for Eva, anyway. Eva doubted anyone had noticed she’d disappeared.
“But—”
Eva sighed, nipping her teeth at Lily’s skin to try and shut her up. She needed Lily to stop talking, she decided, dragging her lips down her neck. Lily moaned when Eva flickered her tongue against the throbbing pulse in Lily’s neck, and that was a sound Eva wouldn’t mind hearing again.
Dangerous, this feeling. Dangerous, the way Lily clutched at her, groaning when Eva’s fingers teased a nipple through the thin material of Lily’s dress. Dangerous, and heady, and oh-so-wrong, the sound of the music pulsing all around them.
What would happen if the door opened and they were discovered?
Stupid, Eva thought, her lips on Lily’s neck as she slid her hand down Lily’s stomach. Reckless.
