“It’s my job. Besides, it’s my choice.” She fixes Shadow with a hard glare, and then Light as if we didn’t both experience it the first time.
“This is our job. One you shouldn’t know about.”
“Too bad, because I do. And they are human women, which makes them my job.”
She has a point and working with local law enforcement where possible makes things easier, but her planet is ignorant about aliens, so we don’t know how much help she will be.
“Oh my God, you two are actually debating this. I know this city. I know the laws. And I can drive a fucking car. So I don’t care that you can hide is shadows and that you can throw mini-suns. I am a part of this.”
We smile. We like her more than we should.
“You are cute when you are being feisty,” Light says with a grin.
She glances at Shadow. “You at least need to put some pants on.”
Shadow shakes his head. “I will draw the darkness to me again.”
She lifts one eyebrow. “I think you like running around naked.”
Shadow grins. “Will it distract you?”
She pauses for a moment. “No.”
We think she is lying, but we like it. Finding the women will mean this job is over and we will have to leave her, even though she knows too much.
Our lips turn down.
Light recovers first. “I will need pants. My clothes are ruined. When I am dressed, I will fetch Mikhail.”
Cadence gives me a pair of Doug’s jeans. They are too loose, but I tighten the belt and make do. Then I tug on my socks and boots, and a T-shirt that Cadence tosses to me. I study her skin and eyes, then use the light to adjust mine to match, so that I don’t attract attention.
“Whoa…that is like magic.” She is staring at me.
Shadow rolls his eyes. “Manipulating darkness is much harder, but everyone is always more impressed by the light.”
She holds her hand up to my face. “You copied me.”
“I needed someone to mimic.”
She reaches up and flicks my hair over my ears, hiding the points that angle toward the back of my head. “Now you look human.”
“I will take that as a compliment.”
She smiles and Light leaves.
Shadow sits on the end of the bed, watching as she pulls on underwear, then black, tight-fitting pants that show off the curve of her ass in a way that makes me want to fuck her again, but I do not. She throws on a long-sleeved top that covers her ass, which is a shame, before putting on shoes.
She glances at me. “Are you sure you don’t want something to wear?”
I have hidden my hardening dick in shadows. Being naked doesn’t bother me. On my world I wear clothes. There is nothing odd about people’s Light and Shadow going about their day. “I am fine.”
She presses her lips together. “Is it rude if I ask why you have two bodies?”
“No ruder than me asking why you are only one. How do you get things done with only one body?”
“It would be handy to clone myself on busy days, but she wouldn’t be me. She’d be a separate being with her own mind, like twins.”
“Our scientists say it is the way we evolved to hunt and survive.” Light is already in the lift with Mikhail. “When we wanted to go off world we had special training, because we don’t look like this at home. It was a shock at first.”
