Connor would have complained about that slam, but then he realized Jenna was still standing there looking kind of shell-shocked.

“You’re in a relationship, and you never even mentioned her?” his sister demanded.

“In his defense,” Trevor said before Connor could answer, turning to Jenna with a charming expression that immediately put Connor’s hackles up, “I’ll be the first to admit that their relationship is a little complicated. By the way, I’m Trevor McCall. I don’t think we’ve met.”

Alarm bells immediately started ringing as Connor realized his teammate—hispack mate—was flirting with his sister. His fangs and claws threatened to come out when Jenna extended her hand and slowly shook Trevor’s, a smile crossing her face as she introduced herself. What the hell did Trevor think he was doing? He had to know Jenna was off-limits—to everyone!

“You’re a lot prettier than Connor,” Trevor pointed out, all suave and smooth. “Are you sure you’re related to him?”

Jenna giggled. She frigginggiggled. And blushed. His sister had no business blushing for anyone, especially not one of his teammates.

“So, Jenna,” Connor cut in, glaring at his pack mate. “You never did say what you’re doing in Dallas. Did work bring you out here?”

Connor doubted that. Jenna was a special-effects artist out in LA. The company she worked for did a lot of stuff in the movie industry, but unless someone was coming to Dallas to film a zombie apocalypse movie or something, there was no chance that was the answer.

“Why does there have to be a reason?” his sister asked, sounding a little defensive. “Can’t it be as simple as a girl missing her brother and wanting to spend some time with him?”

“Yeah, of course,” Connor answered, stepping forward to hug her again, even though he didn’t buy a single word of what she said. There was something else going on, only he wasn’t sure what it was. Knowing his sister, she wouldn’t tell him until she was ready.

Before he could say anything else, Trevor’s phone started making noise, his ringtone a car engine revving. The sound was irritating as crap, in Connor’s opinion.

“McCall,” Trevor said, putting the phone to his ear.

With his werewolf hearing, Connor could have eavesdropped on the conversation easily if he wanted to, but Jenna was regarding him with a curious expression that changed his mind.

“So how did you and Kat meet?” she asked. “And why haven’t you mentioned her when we talked on the phone?”

“We actually ran into each other at one of his crime scenes,” Kat said, throwing a smile Connor’s way. “He looked so sexy in all that tactical gear that I couldn’t help but follow him home like a little lost kitten. And once I’d sunk my claws in, he couldn’t shake me. Not that he tried very hard. He’s a sucker for a cute kitty.”

He knew Kat was taunting him, her smile broadening as his sister started getting all emotional and dewy about how romantic their meeting had been.

As Trevor hung up and came over to join them, Connor couldn’t miss the way his buddy’s gaze tracked toward Jenna or the way that both of them smiled at each other. Now that crap was gonna have to stop—ASAP!

“I know now probably isn’t a good time for this, but that was Rachel,” Trevor said, turning his attention to Connor. “There’s been another kidnapping, this time in full daylight, with witnesses. We need to get over there.”

Connor hated to leave Jenna when she’d only just gotten there, but on the upside, at least it would get her away from Trevor. His pack mate was displaying way too much interest in his sister.

“Jenna, I’m sorry, but we have to take off,” he said. “We’re working a case involving some missing kids.”

“Kids?” His sister waved her hand. “Oh my gosh! Don’t apologize. Go do your job. I’ll hang out here with Kat and convince her to spill all your embarrassing secrets.”

That provoked an uncomfortable silence before Connor realized it would be up to him to say something. “Actually, Kat needs to come with us on this one. She’s been consulting on this case. But you’re welcome to hang out here. I just put some omelets in the oven to stay warm, along with bacon.”

She smiled. “Well, I happen to remember how good your omelets are, so I certainly don’t mind eating them.”

“Okay, great,” Connor murmured, getting that out of the way at least. “I honestly am sorry for having to bail on you. I have no idea how long this is going to take, so if you want, I can come by whatever hotel you’re staying at later.”

Jenna got that hurt look on her face again, making Connor wonder what the hell he’d done now. “I was hoping to stay here with you. But if that’s too much trouble, I suppose I could find a hotel nearby.”

“Definitely not,” Kat said, giving Connor a pointed look. “We’d never want you stay in a hotel. You can even take the bed, and we’ll use the couch.”

His sister’s lips curved. “No way am I chasing you guys out of your bed. I’m cool with the couch.”

“You could always stay at my place,” Trevor suggested. “I have a guest room with a real bed instead of an uncomfortable couch.”

“No!” Connor damn near snarled. “She’s my sister. She’ll stay here with Kat and me.”

Trevor ignored him, still looking at Jenna. “I can give you my number in case you change your mind.”
