“I’m not sure if it was the shopping or maybe you’re still worn out from the fight at the farmhouse, but you should get more rest,” he said, his eyes full of concern again. “I’m down with turning in early if you are?”
Kat nodded. She’d never pass up a chance to cuddle in the bed with Connor. For one quick moment, she considered wearing the ridiculous lingerie her friends had insisted she buy, but then she chickened out and went with a tee and a pair of panties instead.
She barely got the blanket on the bed turned down before Connor came in from the bathroom.
Once in bed, Connor pulled her back against his chest, wrapping his arm protectively around her. She wiggled back against him, smiling to herself as she felt him harden against her butt. Knowing he wouldn’t start anything because he was too concerned about her getting some sleep, she took the lead. Skimming her panties down over her hips, she reached back to caress his hard-on.
Connor took over from there, sliding his hand under her T-shirt to tease her nipples for a little while before running that same hand down her stomach to rub her clit. She was already wet and ready but sure wasn’t going to complain as he teased her some more.
He paused long enough to grab another condom from the nightstand, somehow able to put the thing on with one hand. If she weren’t so interested in what was coming next, she might have asked where he’d picked up that particular talent, but right then, she couldn’t find the energy to care.
Connor moved up behind her again, his chest pressing against her back as he teased her with his cock, sliding in just a little and then withdrawing.
“How many times have I told you not to tease me?” she asked, groaning in frustration.
He chuckled but took pity on her, one hand squeezing her hip in a tight grip as he slid in deep. She’d never made love in this position but quickly decided it was the most beautiful and erotic thing she’d ever experienced. He gently glided in and out, touching her in the most delicious places, while his warm hand wandered all over the place. Her thighs, her stomach, her breasts, up into her hair. When his fingertips slipped down between her legs to tweak her clit in that mesmerizing rhythm, she thought she could stay like this forever. Then he started nuzzling her neck with that clever mouth of his, and she was sure there could never be anything more perfect than this in the world.
They took their time making love—oh so much time—and when they finally climaxed together, Kat imagined this must be what heaven was like.
Even if there was a voice whispering in the back of her head that she shouldn’t get used to it, for the time being she chose to ignore that warning, taking this one moment of happiness and holding on to it as hard as she could.
Chapter 15
When Connor heard the soft knock at the door, he was tempted to ignore it. The tapping was too timid to be anyone from the Pack, and if he left the stove now, the omelets he was making for breakfast would almost certainly burn. When the knock came again, he leaned out a little way from the stove, trying to put some distance between him and all those scrumptious peppers and onions sizzling in the frying pan so he could get a sniff of whoever was out there. But before he could, Kat was walking across the living room, heading for the door.
“I got it,” she called over her shoulder even as Connor had an urge to tell her to check the peephole before opening it. Like she was a kid.
The sound of popping grease forced him to turn his attention back to the eggs, making him miss the door opening. He heard Kat’s welcoming voice, then a murmured response so low and timid that even his werewolf ears couldn’t clearly make it out. But as he picked up the visitor’s scent, he decided he recognized it from somewhere. It was right on the tip of his tongue.
Or the tip of his nose maybe.
He quickly finished the omelet in the pan, flipped it over without making too much of a mess, then added it to the plate warming in the oven along with the first one he’d made. He walked into the living room and almost fell over when he saw his sister standing there with an amused and somewhat bewildered expression on her face. A little shorter than Kat, with long, wavy blond hair, she was wearing distressed jeans and a graphic print tee.
“Jenna?” he said in surprise. “What are you doing here?”
His heart clenched in his chest as his sister winced and took half a step back, the almost happy look she had on her face while talking to Kat instantly disappearing to be replaced with hurt. Wanting to make up for the slight, even if unintended, Connor stepped forward and swept his sister up in a big hug, hoping she’d accept that he was happy to see her, even if he’d been caught a bit off guard.
“Sorry. That came out all wrong,” he apologized, picking her up off the floor a little as he hugged her. “You know I’m thrilled to see you, right? It’s been a while.”
Jenna whacked his shoulder until he put her down, but when he did, it was to see her smiling again. That was something at least. He liked to see Jenna smile—she didn’t do it often.
“Yeah, it has been a while,” she complained. “But whose fault is that? You never come to visit me anymore.”
He opened his mouth to apologize again because Jenna was absolutely correct. The truth was that he’d been avoiding a trip out to California to see her for a long time now. But before he got the words out, he caught sight of Kat standing there.
“Oh, I guess I should make introductions,” he murmured, a comment that earned him a clear and obvious nonverbalno duhfrom Kat.
“You probably already figured it out, but this is Jenna, my sister.”
Connor flourished his hands toward Jenna as he spoke, making claw gestures behind her back and then shaking his head so that Kat would realize his sister had no idea he was a werewolf. Kat seemed to figure it out quickly enough but continued to look his way expectantly. It took a second for him to realize she was waiting for him to finish the introductions. Unfortunately, he was somewhat confused when it came to introducing the woman he’d been sleeping with for the past couple days. What if he said the wrong thing and ended up offending her?
“Jenna, this is Kat,” he started confidently, forcing himself to finish strong as he looked over at Kat. “My girlfriend. We’ve been seeing each other for a while.”
Connor wasn’t sure who looked more stunned, Kat or his sister. Both were staring at him wide-eyed. Crap, had he just messed up by calling Kat his girlfriend? But it felt like she was, regardless of the weird place they were in right now.
“Glad you’ve finally accepted what everyone else already knew,” a voice said from outside the still-open door. Connor turned to see Trevor standing there, a big grin on his face. “It took you long enough.”
Kat’s mouth curved into a teasing smile. “I think we’ll all agree that he’s always been a little slow picking up on things. Look how long it took him to see the real me.”
