“He seems like a really great guy, Lukas. I suggest you embrace it. Enjoy your time with him…maybe he’s more than just a one-lifetime kinda person.”

I didn’t want to dig into what Vincent was suggesting—it was absurd. Perhaps it was just the spark of a new relationship.

“Okay, Vincent.”

“And, Lukas?”

“What?”

I could hear the smile in his voice. “I won’t say I told you so for giving Sam a chance.”

I didn’t respond; I simply disconnected the call.Asshole.

CHAPTER TWENTY-FIVE

Sam

I’d only just enteredCone Creations when Natalie and Ben came up behind me.

“Details!” Natalie said at the same time Ben asked, “Did you have a good time?”

Natalie wasn’t working today, and Ben was either going into the library later or not at all. I chuckled at my best friends and moved behind the counter.

“I did, Ben, thank you for asking.”

“Sam, babe, sweet tart.” Natalie fluttered her eyelashes. “I need details like a fish needs water.”

I pulled my phone out and proceeded to send pictures to our group chat. I’d meant to do it sooner, but between Lukas and loving on Bubbles I’d had no chance.

“You two can look at the pictures while I get things ready for my shift. We open in an hour.”

Leaving them to it, I made sure everything was clean, checked to see if there were any deliveries coming in today, andby the time I got to the front, Natalie and Ben had positively gleeful expressions on their faces.

“That’s something out of a fairy tale,” Natalie squealed.

“Is that a piano in your hotel room?” Ben turned the phone so I could see.

“It was, Nat, and yes, Ben. Crazy, right?”

“And how was Mr. Grumples?” Natalie quirked a brow.

I ducked my head to hide the blush I was sure would give everything away. “He was a perfect gentleman; I had an amazing time with him.”

“Sam,” Natalie called my name, but I was pretending that checking the soft serve machine was most important.

“Samuel.” Ben’s tone was more forceful.

“Hmm, yeah?” I peeked over my shoulder.

“What aren’t you telling us?” Natalie’s eyes narrowed.

“Me?” I spun and shrugged. “Nothing.”

Ben and Natalie both glared at me, but it was Ben who guessed. “You slept with him.”

“What!” Natalie looked from Ben to me. “Did you? Why didn’t you open with that?”

“Nat.” Ben nudged her. “It’s not our business.” He grinned at me. “Sorry, Sam, you’re allowed your privacy.”
