Trevor

I will be back in an hour. I was calling to see

if you were at work or the apartment.

Emily

I am off today. I will be at the apartment.

Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. I couldn’t exactly tell him where I was. I look at Atlas who’s smiling until he sees that I’m visibly tense.

“What’s wrong?”

“I had four missed calls from Trevor so I texted to see what he wanted..” I hand him my phone so he can read it for himself.

“You’re not going.”

“I have to Atlas. I need to end it with him once and for all. If I don’t, he’ll never leave me alone.”

“Fine. Okay. Okay. Go to the apartment and meet him. You call me if you need me, then you can meet me back at Pages afterward. Text mewhen you get there please. I want to give you time to talk, but if you don’t text saying you made it or if I don’t hear from you within forty minutes, then I’ll come to the apartment looking for you.”

I beat Trevor to the apartment, he should be here in about ten minutes. I have to try and figure out how to act like everything’s normal. I turn on a movie and scroll halfway through it so it looks as if I’ve been here for a while.

I tense when I hear the front door shut. This is it, don’t fucking panic, everything is fine. He waltzes in like he owns the place, which I guess in a way he does. He kisses my forehead before plopping down on the couch next to me.

“What, no hello? I thought you would’ve at least missed me.”

“Hey, Trevor. No. It’s not like that. I’m a bit tired. How was the trip?”

“It was fine. What are you watching?”

“Just some rom-com. Um.. Can we talk about something?”

“What is it?”

I stand and start pacing before finally saying what I need to say. “I needwhatever this is to stop. I already told you I needed time to recover from everything. I appreciate everything you’ve done for me, but it’s not working for me anymore.”

He turns to face me and I see his carefully curated smile crack. His face goes completely blank. His eyes look hollow, his voice holds no emotion when he finally speaks. “You think I don’t know that you’ve already been seeing someone else? You’re fucking stupid to think I didn’t see you sneaking around with him. What’s his name? Atlas was it?”

I can feel my panic rising. I didn’t think he knew about Atlas. “He’s my friend, Trevor. That’s all.”

“Keep lying through your teeth and fuck it up even more than you already have.”

Hearing his words feels like a gut punch. Before I can say something he reacts faster than I expected. I don’t even see him move. One moment I’m standing there and the next, my breath is knocked out of me as he slams me against the wall.

He grabs my jaw hard enough to leave a bruise. His body is pinned to mine, keeping me in place as he digs in his pocket for something. This is not the Trevor I remember and not the same man he has been acting like lately.

He must find what he’s looking for because he lets out a small chuckle. It lacks any emotion and my stomach sinks to my feet. I already know I’m not going to like what happens next. He yanks my chin away from him, exposing my neckcompletely.

What the hell is this psycho going to do now?

I open my mouth to question him but my words don’t get the chance to form on my tongue. I feel the sharp pinch of a needle before my blood runs cold and everything goes black.
