This time, I crawled on top facing down until I was in position; however, I was now presented with a new dilemma. How would I turn onto my back without the bed flipping again?

Carefully, I repositioned my body while trying to keep the hammock stable. With every movement, it swung a little more until I was swinging so much the bed flipped again. This time my feet and arms remained tangled in the net, and I swung above the floor.

Darryl and Roscoe howled with laughter, and I was getting a lot more irritated as I let myself fall.

“I think I’d rather sleep with the fleas,” I muttered, slapping both werewolves away as they tried to help me up again.

Darryl’s front door swung open, and Adam strutted in as if he lived there.

“I thought you were going back home,” Darryl said, slightly annoyed.

“I will, eventually.” He glanced at Roscoe and then me. “What’s going on here? Is this a sex thing?”

“No,” I replied, trying to keep my cool. “Let’s just get an air mattress.”

Adam walked over and sat down on the hammock, effortlessly lying back while crossing his legs.

“I should get one of these,” he said.

“How the hell did you do that?”

“How the hell did I do what? Lay down?” He rolled his eyes before looking over at Darryl. “You up for a swimming lesson?”

“Not tonight,” Darryl replied. “Cody’s on the schedule.”

Adam looked me over and shrugged. “He’s not exactly my type, but I could join in if I don’t look at him too much.”

“Sure, you can join us,” I said, crossing my arms. “I think we left off on how to float. Face down. Without moving or coming up for air.”

“That sounds kinda hot.” He examined my face again and broke into laughter. “Wait, that wasn’t innuendo? You really don’t know how to swim?”

“Hey,” Darryl cut in. “At least he’s willing to learn something new. Not everyone’s satisfied with mediocrity.”

Adam sat up out of the hammock and snarled at the tall werewolf before storming out of the house.

“He’s going to be really fun to talk to now,” I said.

“I’ve known Adam for about a year, and the kid’s got a shitty attitude. He’s fun in the bedroom, but that’s where the fun ends.” He tossed a glance at Roscoe. “Maybe you should have a go at him.”

“Well, I haven’t gotten off today, so what the hell?”

“No, I meantalkto him. You’ve got plenty of experience being a shitty person, so maybe you could tell him what not to do with his life.”

Roscoe didn’t say anything.

“Just so you know, if Cody wasn’t with you, I’d have beaten the shit out of you yesterday and told you to get lost.”

The smaller werewolf stared at the floor, tail tucked between his legs. “I’m not that person no more.”

“Yeah, I’ve heard that before.” Darryl took a deep breath, forcing a smile. “While you’re living here, you’re gonna put that lazy ass to good use.”

“Uh… sure. What do you want me to do?”

“You’ll see.” He turned his attention back to me. “Let’s go have a swimming lesson.”
