Chapter 37

Logan

“Faith!”

Logan reached over to check her pulse. It was weak but steady. He felt relieved and frustrated. He wanted nothing more than to carry her away to safety, but she made him promise to care for her brother. Determined to keep his promise, he worked on the male lying before him.

“Is she okay?” Felix asked, trying to reach his hand out to grab Faith’s.

“She’ll live, but I’m not sure about you. Stop moving so I can try to slow the bleeding.”

He had left the medic pack inside the museum. There was no way he would leave Faith to go inside and get it. Luckily, he wouldn’t have to.

“Captain Coor?” a familiar voice called out from the dark.

“Warrior Marque, it took you long enough to get here.”

“There was debris from the storm that blocked our path. Why are there humans all over the ground? Are they dead?”

“They should be dead, but I held back. They attacked us. Secure them and take their weapons. They will have much to answer for.”

“This one seems to need immediate medical attention,” Medic Haggard appeared, kneeling next to Waller.

“Not him. He will not be treated before Faith and her brother. Take him into custody.”

Haggard left the human and came to assist Logan with Felix. “What is the situation?”

“He was stabbed in the side. I’ve put pressure on it to slow the bleeding.”

“You did a commendable job. But I will take over now. I can close the wound and give him a supplement, but he will need a full blood infusion to replenish what he has lost.”

“Faith will need an infusion as well.”

Haggard quickly sealed the human male’s wound and glanced at Faith. “Where are her wounds? How much blood has she lost?”

“She had cuts on her ankles and wrists. I closed them and gave her a supplement. I’m not sure how much blood she lost, but she suffered dizziness and her breathing has been irregular. Her bruises from the beating she received are looking better but may still need to be checked.” Guilt filled him over making love to her while she was in a weakened state. If he caused her more harm, he would never forgive himself.

“How bad is she?” Felix asked, struggling to get closer to his sister.

Logan growled at the male. “Be still or you could cause more damage. Medic Haggard is checking Faith now.”

“I will kill Waller for what he’s done to her,” Felix said, glaring at the still unconscious Waller being handcuffed and pulled away.

Logan growled again. “Stand in line. I have every right to exact justice for the harm he did to my mate.”

Haggard ran a scanner over Faith’s unconscious form. “She has some internal damage, but nothing I can’t heal. She’ll be fine once she has her plasma replacement and healing treatments. A day or two and she’ll be on the road to full recovery. Her brother, however, has lost more blood. He will need several plasma transfusions. I may induce a coma while repairing his internal injuries. Four or five days for his recovery. I need two hover stretchers!” Haggard yelled out.

“I’ve got Faith,” Logan reached for Faith, pulling her gently into his arms. He knew he should oversee the prisoners and their questioning, but he had to make sure Faith was safe and being taken care of. As his mate, she would always come first.

He checked as he walked past, making sure his warriors had everything under control. “I incapacitated six, but I saw a few more run as soon as they caught sight of me.”

Warrior Marque nodded. “We have seven secured. I’ll send Warrior Lake to scout out anyone lingering in the vicinity. There are two trucks. One set up with medical equipment and the other we’ll use for the prisoners.”

Logan nodded, then glared down at Waller, who groaned that he was in pain. Two human soldiers were now assisting with moving the prisoners to the truck. He didn’t hesitate giving orders to them.

“That one remains secured and goes in the truck with the other prisoners. He does not receive any medical treatment until we have interrogated him.”

“Yes, sir.” The human soldiers immediately followed his orders. Not all the human soldiers were corrupt. He would have to ferret out the bad ones before he left Earth.
