“You’re asking a lot of me,” Felix told her.
Faith was trying to find the words to say to help Felix give them the benefit of the doubt, but it was Logan who said something that was evidently universal.
“Trusting is hard. Knowing who to trust, even harder.”
Felix looked at him in shock. Then he looked at Faith. It took a bit of time, but he finally spoke—ordered.
“Tell me everything that happened to you from when things went wrong during the raid.”
Faith tried to sit up once more but winced. Logan acted quickly.
“You’re in pain. Why didn’t you say something?” He reached for the medic kit.
“I wasn’t really feeling much until now. I think I might be crashing.”
Logan gave her the injector with the pain medication. A few seconds passed, and the creased lines of pain faded. She could breathe easier.
“Thank you.”
“Of course. That was the last of the pain medication. You need to take it easy until help arrives.”
“You’re so bossy,” she teased.
He caressed her cheek, and they shared a moment.
“When did you meet this alien? How long has this affair been going on?”
Logan growled, making Felix take a step back. “This is not anaffair. She is my mate.”
Faith answered Felix’s questions. “We met the night of the raid. We had a connection from the start, and the more I got to know Logan, the more I fell for him. He’s a good man. He and his warriors treated me well, and they didn’t have to.”
“What happened in the dome?” Felix demanded.
Faith spoke while lying down. Logan refused to let her sit up again. To be honest, she didn’t think she could right now. Her head was swimming a bit. She said nothing about that. It would only worry Logan.
Sounds from outside had them all turning to look at the entryway.
“What was that?” Faith asked.
“It could be my warriors with the medic,” Logan said as he took Faith in his arms.
“I can walk,” Faith offered.
“You are weak. I can see it in your eyes.”
“He’s right, Faith. You look pale, more so than normal, and your words are slurring a little,” Felix told her.
She hadn’t noticed the slurring words. That sounded bad. She laid her head on Logan’s shoulder. “Well, then, continue carrying me.”
Logan chuckled and kissed the top of her head. “You’re adorable.”
“Not adorable. I’m a strong, sexy, beautiful, smart, and talented woman.”
“You are all that and adorable.”
“Please stop with all this flirting stuff. I can only take so much,” Felix complained.
She ignored him, keeping her focus on her mate. “You are so strong. I like it.”
