Chapter 35

Logan

He shifted off her to the side. Nuzzling her neck and placing a kiss on her shoulder. Shock and pleasure filled him as he finally accepted the truth. Faith was his mate. Somehow, in all the galaxies, he found his mate on a distant, nearly destroyed planet. Maybe his gods had not abandoned him after all. Maybe her gods were looking out for them. He didn’t care about the how or why, only that it happened. They found each other.

He moved to the side and took her in his arms. Logan rested for a bit while the storm brewed outside. It was maybe an hour later when he turned her more so he could check on her. She barely moved. Concern hit him hard.

“Faith?”

He checked her pulse. Thank the gods she was still breathing. Had he been too rough?

“Faith, my love. Please wake up.”

She mumbled, “Five more minutes, Mom.”

A laugh escaped along with relief. She was okay, just exhausted. He needed to get her back to Medic Haggard.

Standing, he quickly redressed and tried his communicator. “This is Captain Coor. Reaching out to Warriors Marque, Lake, or Powers.” He got static. He tried again. Finally, he got through.

“Captain. It’s good to hear from you. Did you find the female?”

“Yes. I’ll be bringing her to the dome shortly. Have Medic Haggard at the ready. She has lost a lot of blood.”

“We should come to you. The storm has died down some, but it could pick back up.”

He thought about that. It wouldn’t be good for them to be caught out in the storm, not with Faith still recovering. Logan had planned to carry her, but that left him unable to defend them if someone were to attack. Her safety was paramount. Decision made.

“Use my locator on my communicator. Bring a vehicle where she can lie down and have Medic Haggard come with you with a blood supplement.”

“Yes, Captain. We are already on our way.”

“Are you saying that you came before I gave the order?”

“Medic Haggard outranks us and made the decision to seek you out.”

He shook his head but felt relief and gratefulness. “Thank you.”

There was a pause before Warrior Marque responded. “You can reprimand us later.”

Snorting, he smiled. “I may very well do that if you don’t get here quickly.”

“Yes, Captain.”

“Logan?” Faith called out his name.

He turned to focus on her. She was sitting up, swaying while trying to put on her shirt. “Let me help you.”

Logan knelt before her and pulled the shirt from her shaking hands. She needed her blood replenished. Lifting the stretchy material up over her, she lifted her arms and slid them through the soft material. Then he moved her head through the opening and pulled it down, trying to ignore her beautiful breasts.

“Stop looking at me that way or we’ll get nowhere,” she warned him.

“I can’t wait to get you back, treat your injuries, then put you in my bed where you belong.”

She lifted her foot to slide into the jeans he held open for her. “Is that true? Do I belong with you? We’re so different.”

He helped her stand so he could pull the jeans up and button them. Then he pulled her into his arms.

“You are my mate. Among my people, we believe the gods created one perfect female for each warrior, to bring light to their darkness. Not everyone finds their perfect mate. It’s rare now and precious. My parents weren’t true mates, and their union was not a happy one. I never believed that I deserved to be so blessed.”

She cupped his face with her hands. “Of course, you deserve a mate. I’m just sorry you got stuck with a frail human. I’m not much.”

“You are everything! My everything and I won’t let you go.”

A familiar voice interrupted them. “You will let her go or I will pull your dead body from her!”

“Felix?” Faith whispered.

“Yes, dear sister. Surprised that I found you? Or worried that I found you conspiring with the enemy?”
