“Of course.”

“You don’t have to stay, Logan. The guys will be back, and the treatment is going to take a while. Right, Doc?” Faith asked Haggard.

He chuckled at Logan’s confused expression. “Doc is evidently the short friendly name they call their medics. She’s right, we’re going to double her treatment since she took the one from yesterday so well. It will be several hours, and I won’t leave her side until Warriors Lake and Powers return.”

“Very well. I’ll see you later, Faith.”

“Take care, Logan.”

He hesitated at her expression. It was worry or possibly guilt. Something in the pit of his stomach made him think twice about leaving her. He had no real excuse, and he needed to check out the raid site.

Logan ignored the human soldiers who tried to decide what to do. Should they follow him or stay where the human girl was being treated? He stopped walking and turned to confront the two males.

“Were either of you at the raid the other night?”

“No, sir,” one of them responded.

“What are your orders?”

“We are to follow you and the female and report back if we see anything suspicious.”

“Suspicious with me and my warriors?”

“With the woman. She needs to be taken in for interrogation,” the other soldier responded.

“Were you given orders to take the female from us if given the opportunity?”

Neither said a word, but they shuffled their feet and looked away. He held back the growl that rose, ready to burst forth. The thought that they would physically put their hands on his female made him furious.

“I understand what happens if you cannot do your job. But let me tell you what will happen if you lay one finger on that female. She is under my protection, thus under the Drastan Empire’s protection. An attack on her, or even a threat to her, will be considered an attack on the Drastan Empire. We will annihilate this dome and everyone in it.”

The soldiers turned pale. His people wouldn’t take down the entire dome. Not everyone here was culpable. But he would take out anyone who harmed Faith and his commanders would back him up. Protection of mates was a serious thing.

“Sir, we would not harm her. We are here to ensure she doesn’t escape before questioning.”

“Then keep your hands to yourself and do your job.”

“Yes, sir!” They both saluted him. It almost made him laugh. But he nodded and walked away. He and the Dome Leader needed to have words.

It didn’t take him long to reach the offices of the Dome Leader. Mary was busy at her desk but stopped when she spotted him. She gave him a smile.

“Good morning, Captain Coor.”

“Good morning, Mary.”

“He is expecting you. Go right in.”

“Thank you.” He stopped walking to turn back to her. “Mary, I was wondering if you could have someone give me a tour of the dome later this afternoon.”

“Of course. I can arrange for a liaison to escort you and your warriors.”

“And Faith. She is going to be with me.”

“Of course. Is there anything you would like to see?”

He thought about it. What would Faith like? “You have gardens?”
