Chapter 25
Logan
Another soldier replaced the soldier from last night. He followed as Logan escorted Faith to the medical facility. His warriors were there, waiting for them.
“Sir. Good morning, Faith. How was break fast?” Warrior Powers asked.
She gave them a smile. “It was great. No tears at this meal. I didn’t see you two this morning.”
“We came to help Warrior Marque. He is being released but must use the bed for rest at least two more days.”
“You mean he’s on bed rest for two days,” she said.
“That is what I said, is it not?”
She laughed. “It is.”
Logan loved to hear her laugh. It was pure and sweet and innocent. Why hadn’t he made her laugh more? It’s true, he wasn’t known for his sense of humor but considered a more serious warrior. That would have to change. He would have to change—for her.
He waved a hand at a chair occupied by the youngest warrior on his team, then made the introductions.
“Faith, this is Warrior Marque.”
She smiled at the younger warrior. “Nice to meet you. I’m sorry for your injury in the raid.”
“It was not of your doing. I got in the way of a male carrying an explosive device. At least I survived, but the human with the device did not.”
Faith paled. “There were explosives? I didn’t realize. I mean, I should have. All the loud sounds and yells… I’m so sorry you were hurt.”
“Faith, you need to sit.” Logan moved her to a cushioned chair.
“Captain, we’ll return shortly.”
He gave a nod but kept his focus on Faith. He was concerned with the paleness of her face and loss of the twinkle that had been in her eyes this morning.
“I’m fine.” She gripped Logan’s arm, keeping him from moving away, and leaned forward to whisper something.
“Logan, I did not know about the explosives. I mean, we saw the guns right before we were ordered to go on the raid, but not the explosives. My tribe doesn’t do weapons and certainly not explosives. Felix doesn’t have access to that stuff like.”
“Who does? Faith, who gave the order for the raid?”
“I can’t tell you, at least not here.”
He understood why she said that; everyone in the medical facility was watching them. Their voices were low enough that he didn’t think any of the humans could hear them. But she was right. This was not the place for him to get those answers from her. He also needed to question the human soldiers about the raid to determine if they had any involvement in it.
“Very well. We will speak more about this later in our quarters.”
“Where did the guys go?”
“Powers and Lake took Marque back to our quarters to rest. They’ll return to guard you through the rest of your treatment. Until they come back, I will stay with you. I have several meetings with Dome Leader Winstead and my commanders. I’ll also be returning to the site of the raid to look for evidence. I want to see the damage done.”
“Is it possible that the guys can take me to the dome shops for a few things I need?”
“Yes, but not today. I know these treatments take a lot out of you. You need to go back to your quarters to rest.”
“Captain Coor?” Medic Haggard asked from behind him. “We’re ready to give Faith her next treatment.”
He turned to find two human females in blue clothing, wheeling a chair behind Medic Haggard.
