“I will find out more once her injuries are treated, she’s fed, and has had a good amount of rest. Her condition makes me question whether the supplies my people have sent here in the past few months were shared with the subway tribes as agreed upon.”
This time, the colonel was quiet, but his eyes shifted around the room instead of looking directly at Logan. That was a definite sign the male was hiding something.
“I’ll get her last name. We registered most of the tribe members in the Drastan database. I’m sure once we know what tribe she is from, we can find out many more answers to all our questions.”
“We have our own database,” Winstead said.
Logan ignored that. “I’ll let you know when I’m ready to start the questioning,” Logan said before standing and leaving. The colonel shut the door behind him.
When he exited the office, he found Mary sitting at her desk. She looked up and smiled. “I’ve planned for the girl. Food is on standby for when your warriors call for it.”
“I appreciate all that you have done.”
“It was my pleasure. Is there anything else I can do for you?”
“I need a space where I can have a private communication with my commanders.”
“You don’t want to use your quarters?”
“I don’t want to disturb the girl or my warriors.”
She gave him a narrowed look. “And you don’t know if we bugged your quarters.”
“Bugged?”
“Listening devices.”
He smiled. “Exactly.”
“We have an office right down the hall that is used by our generals when they visit to go over strategic matters. It is secure, and I can guarantee there are no listening devices.”
“That sounds perfect.”
She stood from her desk. “Right this way.”
He followed her to the office, which was not being used. She left him to make his calls.

Several hours later
Feeling exhausted, Logan arrived at the quarters assigned to him and his warriors. He entered, expecting to find Faith, but his two warriors sat eating at the table. His own stomach rumbled at the smell of the food. Frowning, he looked around the living quarters.
“Where’s Faith?”
“She took a shower, then passed out on the bed. We tried knocking on her door to let her know the food had arrived, but she hadn’t woken.”
Fear took hold of him. “Are you sure she’s not needing medical attention?”
He didn’t wait for their answer as he rushed to the bedroom door that was closed and opened it. As soon as he stepped into the dark room, his fears eased. She was curled up under the covers, and a soft snore emitted from her. It was adorable.
“Captain, we cracked the door open a few times to check on her and she was breathing fine. Medic Haggard suggested letting her sleep as much as possible to aid in her recovery,” Warrior Lake whispered from the doorway.
“Go finish your meal.”
“Yes, Captain.”
As he approached the bed, her scent wrapped around his body. It was sweet, innocent, and delicious. The closer he came, the more the scent did things to him. He leaned over to pull the blanket down, revealing long wavy golden-blonde tresses spread out across the pillow. Her face was now free of dirt and grime and was pale and smooth. Her lips were plump and had a natural pink hue. How could anyone not desire or want to care for this tiny female? When her eyes fluttered and then she opened those incredible green eyes, he knew she owned him. There was nothing he wouldn’t do to have her.
