Chapter 19

Logan

“Where is the girl?” Colonel Winstead demanded to know. He sat on the edge of his desk, arms folded on an overinflated chest. This position was done to intimidate Logan, but the human male did not bother him.

“She is in the medical facility being treated for injuries.”

“Why did you countermand my orders to have her taken directly to interrogation?”

“I don’t follow your orders, Dome Leader.”

“It’s Colonel Winstead, and while you are in my house, you are to follow my orders!”

Logan raised an eyebrow at Dome Leader Winstead’s tone and attitude. He remained calm as he replied.

“I answer to my commander and the President of the United States. They are the ones that assigned me to this mission. If you would like to take it up with them, I can have them on video conference within the hour.”

“You don’t have that kind of access or authority!”

His only reply was taking out his communicator and placing a call. “This is Captain Coor. I need to have a joint video conference with the human president of the—”

“Don’t!” Colonel Winstead tried to yank the communicator out of his hands.

“Are you attacking me, Dome Leader?” He refused to address the male or even think of him as anyone with a military ranking. His behavior had been questionable and less than honorable.

The colonel jerked back his hand. “Of course not! We don’t need to bring up a trivial disagreement with our superiors. We can discuss this between the two of us.”

“Very well.” Logan ended his communications. He would still call his commander when he was done with this meeting. The colonel was trying to hide something.

The colonel walked around and sat in his chair. “I apologize for my outburst. The raid last night has me rattled. We didn’t capture any of the raiders except for the girl. She has to know something that will help us in hunting down these tunnel rats.”

“I will question her myself. But she is not to be harmed.”

“She took part in a planned attack on my supplies. I have soldiers injured.”

“I also have an injured warrior from the raid. What I find interesting is that the attackers knew that a special shipment was coming in last night, the route to be taken, and the exact timing of the arrival.”

The colonel glared at him. “Are you accusing my people of assisting the scum subway dwellers?”

“I’m making an observation. I have made no accusations. However, if after investigating all parties involved, I find anyone culpable, I will bring charges and justice."

“You’re not questioning my people!”

Logan pulled out his communicator and dangled it in the air. That shut the colonel up.

“I will question them, along with my warriors and the female.”

“Did you find out anything from her last night?”

“No, she was injured and unconscious for most of the time.”

“What about her name?”

“All I know is her first name, Faith.”

The colonel snorted. “That’s all you got?”

Logan simply stared at the colonel until the other male shifted in his seat uncomfortably.
