“What was your life like? I can’t imagine what you had to undergo.”
“It wasn’t a day at the park.”
“What does that mean?”
“It just means that it wasn’t easy. But, hey! You changed our discussion to me when you were supposed to answer my questions.”
He held up his hands in surrender and chuckled. “You are correct. What other questions do you have?” He needn’t encourage her because she fired off one question after another. When he hedged on an answer, she pushed him until he caved and gave her all the details. She was relentless. Maybe she should become their interrogator.
“Did you always want to be a warrior? Was it hard leaving your home world? What is Drasta like? Do you have a king or queen? Do you believe in God? What’s your favorite color? Are you married?”
Logan laughed at the situation. The few friends he had knew Logan was not a talker. They would tease him when he told them about all the curious questions Faith asked. But he was going to be a good sport about it and give her every answer.
“I went to warrior training when I was young. My father and grandfather both were warriors, and I had always wanted to be like them. Well, more like my grandfather, that is. I miss my mother and it was hard to leave her to go on this tour. I know she will prepare a feast when I return.
“Drasta is beautiful with multicolored skies and fresh air and green grass everywhere except in the city. We have deities that others of my people worship. My favorite color is green, like your eyes, and I do not have a mate.”
Faith’s coloring changed to a shade of pink. She opened her mouth but said nothing.
“Are you feeling well? Your coloring has changed.”
“I’m fine. Just the dust in the air.”
“I have answered all your questions. I have some of my own I would like answered in return.” He stopped walking to look at her. She wrung her hands and fidgeted. Then her eyes lit up.
“Are those your warriors heading this way?” She pointed behind him.
She was stalling, and he knew it. What was she hiding? Who was she protecting? He was determined to find those answers—eventually. He was a patient male.
Turning in the direction she pointed at, he could make out the truck and one of his warriors driving it.
“Yes. Do not fear them. None of my warriors would harm a female. They will take us back to the dome. I will take you to where my medic can check your injuries while I debrief my warriors and Dome Leader Winstead.”
“I’m not agreeing to be probed.”
“What is that?”
“If you don’t know, I’m not telling you.”
Were all human females this confusing? Or was it just Faith? She was an interesting female, for sure. He planned to learn everything about her.
