“No, he's absolutely on the team,” I said. “Uh, we had an argument with the others.”

“We thought they should stay behind,” Kill said. “You know, because of the fairy bug spray.”

“The what?” Star's cultured accent stayed steady, but his lips twitched.

“The iron spray,” I said. “It's a threat, but not to us.” I waved from Kill to Sever. “And they're kings, so . . .”

Star nodded. “They must have loved that.”

“I think Raza's still roaring,” Sever said.

Star chuckled. “I'll bet he is.”

“We're having breakfast in here,” Yun-hee said and looked at Ainsley and Torquil. “Only two knights today, Ambassador?”

“Yes. The other knights stayed back with their kings.”

“Oh, then we have plenty to share. Would you care to join us?”

“I could eat.” Killian sauntered toward the dining room.

“He can always eat,” Ainsley said brightly, then followed. “So can I.”

Torquil just rolled his eyes. “I'll take the first watch then.” He headed outside.

I didn't argue. It was necessary now that our enemy knew where we were. And had magic-suppressing manacles. Fuck.

“Are you all right?” Star asked as we followed the others into the dining room.

“Yes, thank you,” I said a little more stiffly than I should have.

Star stiffened as well and nodded. “I see. Very well.”

I grabbed his wrist when he went to step past me.

Star froze and looked down at my hand.

“We'll just join Torquil,” Apitron said and hurried away with Nassar.

“I can't,” I whispered.

“I know,” Star whispered back. “I never thought otherwise.”

I let go. “Okay.”

“Okay.”

And that was all that needed to be said.

I hurried into the dining room before my husbands noticed I was lagging. Both were filling plates, but they looked up when I came in, telling me that no matter how short, my absence would always be noticed. I tried not to blush.

Killian cleared his throat and handed me a plate. “Everything all right?”

“Yes. Thanks.” I took the plate and started filling it with eggs, pastries, and rice.

“So, have the local fey been warned?” Sever asked.

“Yes,” Hunter Do-hun said. “They'll take precautions.”
