“I have the basic magic of any fairy.”

“And?” Dae-hyun shook his ax.

“And a unique magic called Firethorns. I can summon thorny vines and set them on fire.”

He frowned as he moved on to another hunter.

I glanced at Sever. He was healing. They all were. Just a little longer and he might be able to laruk. I glanced at Star. He gave me a subtle nod. I had to draw this out.

“Why don't I get any information when I look at you?” Dae-hyun demanded.

“I'm not sure.”

He lifted the ax. “Don't make me do this with each one. My grip might fail.”

“I'm really not sure.” Before he could threaten the hunter again, I said, “ButI suspect it has something to do with my connection to the Gods.”

The ax lowered. “The Gods?”

“Yes, the Gods.”

“How many gods are there?”

“I thought you knew things?” I shot back.

Dae-hyun lifted his brow and the ax.

“All right!” I shouted before he killed someone. “There are two gods. Twin Gods. Anu and Danu are their names. This is Anu's world and humans are his children. Fairy belongs to Danu and the Fey are her children.”

“Twin Gods,” Dae-hyun murmured as he moved on. This time, he went to Apitron.

Apitron bared his teeth at Dae-hyun. “Live it up now, motherfucker. Soon, you'll be on my world, and I'm going to have fun with you.”

“Your world?” Dae-hyun asked, then peered at Apitron. “Ah, you mean Hell. You're implying that I'm going to die and go to Hell. But I won't. I'm going to extract immortality from Princess Seren and then I won't have to worry about the Gods.”

I snorted a laugh. It was mostly an attempt to draw his attention back to me.

“Why is that funny?” Dae-hyun set the end of his ax on the floor and leaned on the hilt.

“We all have to deal with the Gods. Even the most powerful of us aren't exempt from their interference in our lives. Anu may be more hands-off than his sister, but heishere. He knows all about you. He's watching us right now, I'm sure.”

“And he loves me?” Dae-hyun drawled.

“Yup. He loves you enough to send your ass to Hell,” I shot back.

“Oh? What about all that stuff about unconditional love?”

“As I said, he loves you enough to send you to Hell. That's where your soul will be put back into balance.” I sneered at him before adding, “Through torture.”

“That doesn't sound very loving.”

“It's necessary to the evolution of all creation.” I smirked at him. “Even with all the wisdom you've stolen, you won't be able to understand the Gods.”

“And you do?” Dae-hyun didn't sound taunting. It was an honest question. “You say he's here, but he isn't helping you. You're in chains and one of your friends is dead. Still, no divine intervention.”

“Anu generally leaves things to us. Conflict helps us evolve. But he's always with me, and I have faith in him. I am his sword, and he is my shield.”

A warmth spread through my chest at those words. Not magical, just a good feeling that told me what I said was the truth. Yes, I loved Danu more. She'd been a second mother to me. But Anu kept his word. He had chosen me. Blessed me. Charged Killian with guarding me. When I walked one of his worlds, he watched over me. And he always had a plan.
