“Fourth floor,” I said. “Why?”
“Maybe you should sneak in.”
“And do what?” I gaped at him. “He's mad at me, and I'm not ready to have sex with him even if he wasn't.”
“Oh.” Caleb frowned as if his thoughts were jumbled. “You're right. You should stay away from him. Fuck, Taroc!”
“Yeah, fuck, Taroc!” Albert said.
“I'll fuck Taroc,” Rachel said, then giggled.
“Taroc's about as interested in you as he is in me right now,” I muttered.
“You should confront him,” Rachel said.
“It's the middle of the night.”
“Yeah, if he wants to drive Taroc further away, now would be a good time,” Caleb said. “But otherwise, I'd wait.”
As we reached the fourth-floor landing, I peered down the corridor. I envisioned myself staggering up to Taroc's door and pounding on it until he opened up. He'd glare at me. I'd demand to know what his problem was. He'd slam the door in my face.
“No, not going there tonight,” I muttered and set to climbing the next flight of stairs.
By the time we reached the top floor, we were crawling up the steps. Albert was a flight down, sprawled across the stairs. He had told us to save ourselves and go on without him, then passed out. The rest of us were determined to not suffer his fate.
“We made it,” I panted and flopped onto my back.
Caleb and Rachel kept crawling past me.
“Just a little further,” Caleb said. “Then I can lie in a bed.”
“We can do it,” Rachel said.
I moaned and rolled onto my belly. “All right.”
We crawled down the hallway. Luckily, my door was before theirs. They still had to get around the corner.
“Goodnight,” I panted.
They didn't look back, but muttered together, “Goodnight.”
I got to my knees to reach the handle, opened the door, and fell inside the suite. Cursing, I crawled around the door, shut it softly, and then made my way to the couch. I knew Rath and Xae would be asleep, and I didn't want to disturb them. I clawed up onto the couch, rolled onto my back, and passed out.
Chapter Thirty-Six
I fully expected to wake up with a hangover.
I did not. Thank you immortal recuperative abilities.
I did, however, get rudely awoken by Xaedren. He grabbed my boots and shook me violently.
“What the fuck?!” I shouted as I sat up.
Xae glared at me. “It's time for breakfast. Go shower. You stink. We'll meet you downstairs.” With that, he faded.
Rath, who was standing behind him, came into view with Xae's disappearance. He shook his head at me and vanished.
“Aw, fuck,” I muttered and got up.
