“That should mask it,” he said in a desire-roughened voice. “The scent of Dralmarin arousal and cum are... pungent.”
I gave a throaty laugh. I couldn't help it. “Thank you. I'm sorry you had to... uh, witness that.”
“I'm not.” He grinned broadly. “That's the most fun I've had in weeks. Thank you for... letting me participate in a small way.”
“Oh, darling,” I purred, “there was nothing small about your contribution.”
Rain let out a surprised bark of laughter before he clamped a clawed hand over his mouth. “You are a very interesting woman.”
“Thank you. And, by the way, it worked. They have everything you gave me on the prison security and everything I saw on the way here. They'll find us.”
“Finding us is only step one, beautiful,” Rain said with a sigh. “But it's further than I've gotten, so I'll take the win.” He lifted a furry brow. “Who exactly will be coming for us?”
“Department of Homeland Security. I'm part of a secret team of supernaturals working for the U.S. Government.”
Rain whistled. “Well, we might actually stand a chance of getting out of here after all.”
“You can count on it, darling,” I said as I snuggled beneath my blankets. “The Bleiten Prince of Hell, a Faulin master, and a Triari prince are searching for me. And those are just my kishanos. They won't stop until I'm safe.”
“Sounds like you're a special woman.”
“I'm aluckywoman,” I countered. “Very lucky. Granted, I'll feel luckier once I'm out of this dungeon.”
Rain chuckled again; it was the last sound I heard before sleep took me.
Chapter Twenty-Three
A siren woke me.
I crawled out of bed, glad I'd gotten up in the middle of the night to pee. The supes were snarling and shifting into their most frightening forms. Something was going down, and I didn't have time for a potty break.
“Fuck!” Rain hissed. “Don't leave your cell, Amara!”
“Don't leave my cell? What do you mean?”
Then the doors opened.
“Oh, sweet sepia,” I whispered as supes launched themselves out of their cages, all of them heading straight for me.
Rain barreled into Pavel right in front of my cell. He snarled as he ripped the man's throat out. Seconds and Pavel was dead. I gaped at the sudden violence in horror. Rain left the body where it lay and took up a position in the doorway of my cell. He crouched into a battle stance, claws extended and teeth bared.
Beyond him, supes crashed into each other, fighting to get to me. And this was just because I had walked by them, I couldn't imagine how savage they would have been if they had scented what I had done the night before. They thought that if they could just reach me, they'd get themselves a nice fuck from the poor, helpless woman. I was far from helpless, but I didn't want to alert my captors of that fact. Still, I couldn't let Rain face all those supes for me.
“Fuck,” I growled as I slipped into my second sight.
Maybe they wouldn't notice. Then I looked around and realized that I could simply black out the cameras—a very pointed, condensed illusion. I smiled broader as I covered the camera lenses in shadows. It took only a moment but in that brief span of time, a few supes whose cells were close to ours made it to Rain—an Ungaru, an unknown, and the fucking Bhaturan. I know I shouldn't condemn an entire race because of the actions of a few, but Bhaturan males were chauvinist assholes.
This one proved my point when the other two turned as if thinking about attacking each other, and he said, “Why fight when we can take out the Dralmar together and then share her?”
The three men grinned at each other and then at Rain.
The Bhaturan stepped forward, stretching his neck as a vicious smile crossed his cruel face. “Stand aside, Dralmar, and we won't kill you.”
“Not happening,” Rain snarled.
“We won't hurt her.” The Ungaru's grin turned into a leer as he looked me over. “I'll make you scream only in the best ways, baby.”
“Go fuck yourself, baby,” I drawled back.
