“We weren’t in charge then,” Baz says.

“Like we said, Rhett Carter was a fucking monster, and he didn’t much care about those in the lower levels,” Ares says. “He was going to wipe them all out anyway if he got into power.”

“Jesus, I need alcohol.” Abby flops down on the couch.

“It’s eight o’clock, Firecracker.” Kai drops down beside her.

“It’s wine o’clock somewhere,” Athena and Abby say together before they both laugh.

“Any other secrets you care to share before you leave?” I ask, pulling Athena back against my chest. I rest my chin on her head and fix the asshole with a glare.

“Nothing much.” Ares smiles. “Except Huss has you and your friends earmarked to succeed him and the elite board when he retires.”

My jaw hits the floor, and I don’t need to look at the others to know they’re stunned speechless too.

“But it’s no biggie.” Ares shoves his grinning asshole face all up in mine, slamming his hand down so hard on my shoulder it’s a miracle he didn’t break the bone. “We can discuss it another time.”

ChapterThirty-Three

Drew

“Iwant to ask you something,” Anderson says as the four men are ready to leave.

“Make it snappy,” Knight says.

“Did you kill my father and William Hamilton?”

“Yes,” Ares readily admits.

“I thought you said you don’t go around eliminating people anymore?” Abby asks what we’re all thinking.

“They were elite, and our hand was forced,” Jase says.

“You’re starting to sound a lot like your asshole predecessors,” Charlie says, affronted like the rest of us.

“I didn’t mean that how it sounded. Just that elite are a separate entity, and we aren’t under the same scrutiny when it comes to how we handle the other organizations.”

“Sounds like hypocritical bullshit,” my sister says, calling them out on their questionable morals.

Have I mentioned how much I worship the ground my twin walks on?

Kai is staring at her like he can’t wait for all of us to leave so he can ravish her, and that’s as far as I’m letting that thought go.

“You’re a bunch of ungrateful assholes.” Ares folds his arms and glowers at us. “Truth is, we saved your asses.”

“Again,” Jase drawls.

“We found out at the last minute that Hamilton had hired a contract killer to assassinate Atticus Anderson in Lake Garda and a way to lure Atticus’s sons to Italy so they could take the heat. We know why too.” Knight trains his gaze on Hunt. “After we deal with this, we want that file your father has hidden.”

Hunt opens his mouth to say something.

“Don’t,” Baz interjects. “That tape relates back to things that happened in the past. Things that are no longer relevant but have the power to collapse the entire world, and I’m not being dramatic when I say that.”

“As long as that tape is out there, it’s a threat to all of us and a threat to your father. If our enemies knew of its existence, they would come for all of us. This isn’t up for debate. We’ll help you with this, and you will hand that tape to us,” Ares says.

“What do you plan to do with it?” I ask, holding Athena tighter and trying to ignore the semi forming in my pants at the way her ass is pressed against my crotch.

“Destroy it,” Jase says.
