“Dax, don’t be like that,” he pleaded. “I know it’s not a great time, but I have to work all weekend and I wanted to talk to you first.”

“Yeah? Now you want to talk?” I rounded on him, feeling myself gearing up for a fight I didn’t really want to have, especially not in front of Jagger or at my place of work. “You know what, I think you should go.”

“I can drop off Jagger at my mom’s on my way home,” he offered. “Please, give me a chance to explain. I know I shouldn’t have ignored your calls and messages, but it’s really not what you think.”

There was a soft rap on the door. We both looked up in time to see Justin walk into the room. “Hey guys,” he greeted us, acting like he hadn’t just interrupted a very personal disagreement. “I…uh, I figured you might have forgotten that we have a meeting at three-thirty.”

Shit. That stupid meeting had totally slipped my mind. It was almost annoying how Justin had this knack for swooping in and saving the day.

“Thanks.” At least I had an out Michael couldn’t argue with. “I’ll call you when the meeting gets done. You’re right that we need to talk, and I’m willing to hear you out, but not here.”

“I can deal with that.” Michael told Jagger to get his toys picked up and followed Justin into the hall. A twinge of jealousy blossomed in my gut, but I tamped it down quickly. Justin was only a friend, and the one thing I knew for certain was I could trust Michael when he said I was the only guy who’d ever turned him on. If he was attracted to his friend, they’d had plenty of time when they could’ve gotten together.

A few minutes later, Jagger and Michael were gone and Justin stopped back by my room. “You ready?”

“Yeah, let me just pack up here.” If I was going to see Michael before he went to work, I needed to leave right from our meeting. Justin handed me a can of Coke, for which I was eternally grateful. Again, the man truly seemed as if he was trying to earn his superhero’s cape.
