“She’s a walking STD.”

Sticks and stones, bitches. Sticks and fucking stones.

I arrive to physics ahead of King Asshole.

Mr. Barnes isn’t here yet either.

I have a short reprieve before Maverick comes barreling through the door, carting the massive chip on his shoulder. There’s no doubt in my mind a confrontation between us is imminent.

Lucy’s crazy to believe he has a crush on me. His only goal is to make my senior year a living hell. My archenemy marches into the classroom.Speak of the devil.Purple bruises dot his handsome face, but something tells me his injuries are from fighting at the warehouse and not the brawl at Jake’s.

That boy has a freaking death wish. Maverick’s erratic behavior could stem from his mother’s suicide. After learning that tidbit, I felt bad for him. I know the pain of losing a parent all too well.

He drops into his chair. “It’s in your best interest to stay away from Jake.”

“We actually have a date this weekend.” Not true, but he doesn’t need to know that.

Maverick angles his body towards me and snakes an arm over the back of my chair. “Don’t test me, Cocoa.”

“Did you honestly think I’d listen to you?” I quirk an eyebrow. “You have no control over me whatsoever.”

He inches forward until only a hairbreadth separates us. “Go near him again and you won’t like what follows.”

His minty breath fans across my lips, shooting a tingling sensation straight to my core. Ugh! What the hell’s wrong with me?

“Maverick.” I flutter my eyelashes at him. “Go fuck yourself.”

My phone dings and I fish it out of my purse.

Jake: Hey,beautiful. Hope you have a good day.

Cocoa: Morning

Maverick snarls, tearing my cell phone from my hand.

“Give it back!” I shrill, reaching for it.

He launches it across the classroom, and it smashes against the smart board, shattering into pieces. I just paid a hundred bucks to have the screen replaced!

“I hope you die,” I whisper, violent hatred blooming in my chest.

A pained expression mars his features but quickly disappears.

“Cocoa is an attention-seeking whore who’ll fuck anybody!” Maverick announces to the class. “Spread the world and treat her like the scum she is.”

I steel my spine, touching my gaze on each face in the classroom, a silent challenge to these motherfuckers.

I will not fold.

I’m becoming more irritable by the second. My gaze constantly wanders to Cocoa. She’s animatedly chatting with her friends. Why isn’t she hiding in a bathroom stall crying hysterically? My announcement in class hasn’t fazed her one bit. Anyone else would be having a mental breakdown.

She blatantly ignored my warning and responded to Jake’s text message right in front of my fucking face. Who the fuck does Cocoa think she is? My word is law at Montgomery Academy. Whatever I say goes, no questions asked… until her. She knows what buttons to push to set me off.

“You gonna stare at her the entire time?” Nix pops a tater tot in his mouth.

“Maverick Carter hung up on a girl,” Dee muses, scratching his chin. “Never thought I’d see the day.”

“Screw you both,” I snap.
