“I don’t understand. It’s been your dream forever.”
“That’s the thing. A military career isn’t for me. It’s what Dad wants. He’s driven me towards it my whole life, and I’m tired of him pushing his bullshit agenda on me.”
“When will you tell him?”
“After graduation.”
“What are your plans?”
“I have no clue. The sky is the limit. I’m definitely not enrolling in college for a year or two. I need to figure out what motivates me.”
“That’s awesome.” I pause. “He’ll be livid.”
“I don’t give a crap.”
“You have my full support.”
“That means a lot, sis.”
“You can always count on me. Now, finish your breakfast. My goal to slim down these hips begins today.”
“You joined a gym?”
“Nope. I’m going jogging,” I say proudly.
“You? Jogging? Good luck.”
“Have some faith in your sister.” I scowl playfully, this time throwing a potato at him.
It feels good to have my brother back.
I’m not accustomed to dining at chain restaurants, but I’m not here to enjoy the food. Pepper is working tonight, giving me the chance to interact with her.
Pepper stops, pausing for a few seconds when she sees me sitting at a table in her section before continuing forward. The white polo shirt and black pants she’s wearing mold to her lush curves.
“Hi,” she says nervously. “You probably don’t recognize me—”
“You’re an intern at my company.”
“Yes.” She glances away shyly. “My name is—”
“Pepper Bryant.”
She nods. “I’m surprised you know who I am.”
“Your supervisor sings your praises.”
She clasps her hands together and bites her full bottom lip in exhilaration. “Mr. Stone, I’m delighted to intern for such an amazing corporation.”
“You deserve it, and please, call me Dom.”
She smiles. “Okay.”
Her innocence is fucking seductive. Pepper is capable of seducing a man with little to no effort at all. That makes her dangerous.
“It doesn’t disturb you to look at my face?”
“No. Should it?”
