“Couldn’t really sleep after...”
She set down the bowl, some pale hair falling over her shoulder.
“Well, hopefully this will help you get your strength back up.”She said the words smoothly, but I could see the spark of deception in them.
“Yeah. Thanks,” I said as Randy pulled a chair out for me.
I was hesitant to take it, but my mother always raised me to be polite.
My mother...
Memories flashed in my brain of moments like this one, moments lost, moments stolen.
It’d been years since I lost her, and I thought I’d gotten better.
But it seemed that even years later out of nowhere...her memory came back to me, haunting me and making me relive my grief all over again.
“I gotta go, baby,” Randy said, his demeanor shifting entirely as he looked at Sarah.
Even his tone was softer, warmer.
I took my seat, my gaze trained on them.
A look passed between them, and I felt once again like I was a fly on the wall, watching something I shouldn’t.
“When I get back, we’ll...we’ll make a plan, okay?”he said, his voice carrying the hint of guilt and remorse.
How was it I could feel such empathy, such sorrow for the man who kidnapped me?
For the man who’s putting a fucking monkey wrench in my own journey to live?
He reached out softly, running his hand over her hip, resting it on her stomach as he leaned in and kissed her.
Sarah fell into him with ease, kissing him with a tenderness that made my heart ache.
I stared at my bowl of beef stew, grabbed a spoon and dove in for a carrot. It was soft and hot, and tasted heavily of garlic, and not at all like my mother would have made.
But it would have to do for now, and in the morning, this place would be nothing but a memory.
CHAPTER12
Endor
“What is your deal?”I bit as I closed the door to our hotel room.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” she nipped.
I suspected her shift in mood had to do with the vision Mercy had, or maybe it was the guilt from stealing that asshole’s wallet.I knew she thought I didn’t know, but the truth was I’d been standing there a lot longer than I let her believe.I’d seen the whole thing. The way she batted her eyelashes, let him fuckinggrindon her.
How she played into his desires, while she enacted her deception.
It was hot as hell, watching Valory do something...bad.
Something angels should not do.
I couldn’t deny that the sight enflamed me with heat, but it also caused an unfamiliar feeling to blossom in my gut, one I had truly never felt before.
Jealousy.
