Endor

My body thrummedwith fire at the sight of the half-man, half-beasts in front of me as they descended. My wings flexed, and I called my newfound energies to my palms, forging another fireball to send at the alpha. One half-man, half-wolf howled as I sent the fireball on track to its target, and immediately we were surrounded by wolves.

“Give us the girl, and no one gets hurt,” the alpha snarled as he batted my fireball away like it was nothing more than a fucking baseball.

I turned to see Valory and her wings still shielding her and Mercy, both of them running toward the sanctity of the hotel room.

Why wasn’t she transporting her as I had instructed?

Anger and annoyance flooded me.We did not have time to piss around!

I sent out another blast of fire at a small group of wolves that were running toward them, but it was no use.The wolves only snapped their maws and ran through my fire like a three ring circus.

What in the actual fuck?

“Over my dead body,” I bit as a fresh wave of energy—this much more heated than the last—surged through me.I could feel the power in my veins, lighting me up like fireworks on the fourth of July.

“That can be arranged,” the alpha in question sneered, his eyes glowing bright red as he opened his mouth, revealing long, sharp fangs, the hair on his body thickening as he channeled some half-shifted monster.

Our bodies collided, like a hurricane and a volcano.

I fought his grip, his claws sinking in through my suit sleeves, shredding the fabric with ease as I channeled my fire.My bodyburnedwith fury as literal fire caught my pants, trying to spark and land on the alpha. My wings shook as wolves bit at them beneath us.I twisted and turned in their grasp, trying to kick them away, to shoot fire at them and the alpha.

I screamed in pain as fangs sunk into my ankle, werewolf venom stinging me like something fierce. The alpha turned me in his grasp, and that’s when I saw that I was not the only one down for the count.

My heart and bile rose to my throat as the wolves bit at Valory, as one of the other half-wolf, half-beasts shredded her dress with his bare hand—claws.Valory’s golden energy—her smiting energy—was not working.I watched in horror as the golden ball of light fizzled out, like a circuit breaker that would not kick over.

Mercy hollered and kicked as another wolf-man grabbed her, picking her up like a damn ragdoll.

“No!”I screamed as the other wolf-man dragged his fangs along Valory’s perfect neck, his claws shredding her neckline, rivulets of blood trailing down her neck.

“Endor!”Mercy called my name, and it echoed in the hills as another round of bites sunk in through my flesh, the sting much more prominent.

I twisted and turned in the alpha’s grasp, but it was no use.The venom was already slowing me down, and I knew I was as good as dead.

Because as I watched them take our Mercy, our lost soul amidst the haze of darkness, I knew there was no sentence I deserved more than death. The last thing I saw was Valory’s tear-stained cheeks as I fell into the abyss.

“Endor, come on, wake up...”Valory’s voice shook, and I could hear the sadness in it.

“You have to get up, we have to—”

My body ached. My joints felt fragile, like I could feel every shock my bones had absorbed.

That’s weird.

As a demon, I was familiar with pain.But this...this pain was new.Fresh.

And it hurt like a bitch.

I leaned up on my elbows, surveying the hotel room we’d been staying in.

The memories, the reality, all came back at me at once, fire igniting my bones as failure spread within me.

“Mercy...”I said as I lunged forward only to fall back in pain.

“Mercy is gone, Endor,” Valory sobbed.
