Violet touched the rune herself, and my finger, and a jolt of electricity shocked me.

My vision went white, and I thought for a moment I must have been shocked by lightning. Perhaps Norman’s runes were faulty...

But soon enough, images filled my brain that made no sense.

Of Violet and me in the library, locked together against the windows.

Of a golden castle gleaming in the distance.

Of silk bed sheets, and Violet’s beautiful smile.

Of thrones and forests, and classrooms.

None of it made any sense.

“Bane?” Violet’s voice sounded far away, and I realized she was looking over me.

I was... on the ground.

How did I end up on the ground?

“Take it easy, son,” Professor O’Connor said as I felt hands behind my back push me up. I realized the class had formed a circle around me, and instantly, I felt the panic forming.

What the hell...

“I’m fine...”

“It’s all right, sometimes transference can happen from the runes, though it’s quite rare. But it seems you, my friend, have been given a gift from the faeries themselves.”

Professor O’Connor looked at Violet, my gaze following his.

“Take it easy, you took quite the shock,” he said.

My gaze fell on Violet, who looked concerned. She bent over, her hands on her knees as she peered over the professor’s shoulder, and the motion drew my attention to the swell of her breasts and the cleavage I could see perfectly from this angle.

The students around us whispered and chattered incessantly, and I knew I’d never hear the end of this. I raised my legs, drawing my knees close so as to help stifle my burgeoning erection.

Not that I was against voyeurism by any means, but this was not the time!

“I’m sure it’s nothing a nap and a cold beer can’t fix, Professor,” I said as I pushed myself to my feet. Dizziness overcame me, but I wasn’t about to tell him that. I shrugged him off, my gaze catching Violet’s once more.

I didn’t need to make the situation worse than it was.

“Bane—”

“I’m fine, really. I just... got a little zap. Nothing I can’t handle, promise. It won’t happen again.”

Professor O Connor pursed his lips.

“Very well, then,” he said as he headed back toward his desk, just as the bell rang.

I waited for Violet to pack her things, until Norman and Wanda had left before I spoke.

“I’m sorry about earlier, I don’t know what came over me, I—”

“No, I’m sorry. I guess you were right, I am more powerful now. I should have been more careful, I—”

“You didn’t know about transference. Neither did I. There wasn’t anything either of us could have done to prevent you knocking me on my ass. Again. This seems to be a regular thing with you,” I joked.
