Blackthorn nodded. “Well, if you do have any... interactions worth noting... with anyone, please don’t hesitate to let me know. It is part of my job to make sure you are getting the resources you need.”

Oh, I think I’m getting my resources all right.

“Of course,” I said as she waved me off.

“That’ll be all, darling. Thank you.”

“Well, well, look what the surf dragged in.” Norman’s chipper voice pulled me from my thoughts as I realized I’d hardly eaten my lunch.

“Oh my stars! I am so sorry, I—”

“And she looks to be in one piece, too,” Wanda drawled sarcastically.

“I’m so sorry, I should have—”

Norman’s tentacle slipped around my shoulder as he pulled me close.

“Stayed put with us, why yes, you should have,” he said with a grin.

“But it seems you are all right, and in one piece, and that is all that matters to us, right, baby?”

Wanda cast us both a glare. “Of course,” she bit.

“Th… thank you for dropping off my bag,” I said, feeling sweat prickly my brow.

Wanda shrugged. “Well, I expected you to be there, but your roommate said you never came back. I thought maybe...”

“She thought Bane might have strung you up for a feeding,”

My blood ran cold.

How did they know?

Was this... was this something Bane did frequently?

Panic flooded me.

“Wh... what do you mean?” I asked as I tried to play it cool.

“It has been quite a while since he probably fed,” Norman mused.

“Which is why if he asks you, or tries to seduce you…” Wanda slid her arm around me, turning my face toward her. “You should tell us,” she said, her eyes glowing bright aqua.

My insides felt funny, and my head hazy.

“Hey,” a familiar sweet voice cut through the weird fog.

I looked up to see Delaney standing there, her eyes narrowed on Wanda.

“Delaney,” Norman’s voice was full of darkness.

“Oh, hey...” I said as I blinked, the strange fog somehow dissipating..

“You know that thing, you asked me about last night?” she said as she focused her gaze on me. I noted the flecks of amber in her eyes lit up as she implored me with her gaze.

I didn’t know what she was talking about, but intuition told me to say yes.
