“Yeah,” I said as I swallowed nervously.
“Well, I got your answer, so do you want to take a walk and I can fill you in?” she said with a grin. I nodded.
“Sure, that sounds great,” I said as I got up, removing Norman and his tentacle from my shoulder.
“I’ll, uh... see you in class later,” I said, and with that, I followed Delaney out of the cafeteria.
When we were far enough away, I let out a sigh of relief.
“Thanks for that, I—”
Delaney stopped, taking my chin in her hands as she moved my head to the right then the left, then proceeded to brush my hair away from my neck.
“You’ve got to be more careful who you hang out with, Vi, I’m serious. Those two freaks are nothing but trouble.”
“You said Bane was trouble, too. Is everyone trouble, except you?”
Delaney pursed her lips.
“If you want my honest opinion, yes.”
I let out a small laugh as she dropped her fingers.
“He didn’t suck on you with his slimey suckers, did he?” She wrinkled her nose.
“No, why... what would it matter if he did?”
Delaney brushed her hair over her shoulder.
“You’re awakened now, so you’ve got more juice. Bane isn’t the only creature that feeds on lust, you know.”
“Oh,” I said as her words hit me.
Oh...
Suddenly, his handsy tentacle-fest made more sense. He was trying tofeedon me.
“But... I don’t… desire Norman. Or Wanda,” I said in hushed tone.
Delaney looked at me seriously.
“It doesn’t matter, Vi. You desiresomeone. That’s all they need. Wanda is asiren.Like Bane, she can embody your darkest desires. And Norman... all he needs is for you to feel the desire. Doesn’t matter if it’s about him.”
Delaney whispered, “That’s probably why Wanda left Bane. No contrast.”
Wanda and... Bane... were a thing?
“How long ago was that?” I asked, my blood going cold.
“About a year and a half. Right before he started dating that mortal... Alice, or something or other. Shit, Vi, I gotta go or I’m going to be late to Astrology. We’ll catch up later, but remember... everyone is trouble!” she sang as she headed off in the opposite direction.
Bane and Wanda were a thing.
I didn’t want to think about what that entailed, but my stupid psyche wouldn’t let me rest.
He’d desired her, fed on her.
Kissed her.
