I didn’t hear anything while I tiptoed to the bathroom. Sparrow ran to the kitchen to wait for his food. He would have to wait a little while longer.

I wanted to take a bath but decided against it since Major was somewhere around. I was still on the fence about him. I had impure thoughts, but I wasn’t sure if he was married or not.

In the bathroom, I let the shower warm up while I relieved my bladder. Once it was steamy like I liked it, I wiped myself, then removed my pajamas.

I put my hair in a bun and got in the shower.

“Dammit, I forgot my shower bonnet.” I had separate bonnets for bed and for the shower.

Sparrow probably sat by his bowl, acting like he hadn’t eaten in days. I hoped Major didn’t do anything to him whenever he saw him. I would hate to have to kill his fine ass for harming my baby. The last guy I dated hated cats and found a reason to tell me every single time we talked to each other. At first, I stopped him from coming to my house, but eventually, I had to break things off with him. You weren’t going to act like my child was a bad thing. Imagine if I told him I hated his son. That wouldn’t have gone so well. After him, I wasn’t letting another man stay around me if he couldn’t deal with my son.

Once I was cleaned, I got out of the shower and went into the bedroom so I could get dressed for the day. As I got dressed, I noticed how much snow had fallen overnight.

“I can probably get some good pictures from the window.” I got my camera out of my bag and made sure I had the right lens on it. I picked up the hobby of photography a few years ago when I needed new pictures for my products. I had a specific vision for my brand, and I didn’t trust anyone with it, so I took matters into my own hands. It started with my products, then I started taking pictures of things around the neighborhood. Squirrels were one of my favorite animals to photograph. They were so small and cute, especially when they had their cheeks full of nuts.

After I had my camera, I walked over to the window and opened it. The room was nice and cozy, but I knew it would quickly get cold. I took a few shots of the snow-covered mountains and the ton of snow that was behind the cabin. I wouldn’t make it out of here if I tried.

My stomach growled, so I closed the window and returned my camera to the bag. I put my slippers on and headed to the living room.

Sparrow met me in the kitchen and rubbed against my leg. I grabbed a can of his food and put it in the bowl. After he was set, I walked over to the sink and washed my hands.

I wasn’t sure where Major was since I didn’t see him when I entered the living room, but I didn’t smell him either. His cologne smelled earthy and rugged. That was the best way to describe it. I noticed he folded the blanket and neatly placed the pillow on top of it. That was a good sign. I couldn’t stand a sloppy ass man.

I figured he couldn’t have gone too far, so I decided I’d make enough food for both of us.

I turned on some music and opened the fridge to pull out the ingredients I needed. I had a taste for a cheese omelet, so that was what we would have. I hoped he liked it. If he didn’t, he was on his own.

I swayed my hips and sang to every song that came on. No matter what I cooked, I got into a zone with the music playing. Cooking was a way for me to escape the thoughts in my mind. I needed to figure out how to completely get rid of Daniel. This time I wouldn’t double back. We were wasting each other’s time; at least in my eyes, we were. He still had this idea that we would be more than we were. He hadn’t called or texted me again, and I prayed it stayed that way.

Mariah and her husband were probably busy, so I sent her a quick text to let her know that I was good. I didn’t want to talk to her, because she probably would try to convince me to fuck Major. I didn’t need convincing, though; if he tried, I’d give it up.

I heard the front door open as I sprinkled the cheese in the omelet. I could hear Major as he took off his boots and his coat.

I continued making breakfast, thinking Major would come into the kitchen, but he didn’t.

“Maybe he doesn’t want breakfast,” I whispered. “Or maybe he doesn’t trust your ass.”

“You like to talk to yourself, I see.”

I damn near dropped the omelet on the floor instead of the plate because he scared the shit out of me, even though I heard him come into the house.

“Shit, you scared me.” I turned the music down and faced him.

“Must be living foul,” he said as he walked further into the kitchen. My heart flipped when he got really close to me. I tried to back up, but there was nowhere for me to go. For a second, it felt like I couldn’t breathe, with his cologne engulfing me.

His all-black sweatsuit looked good on him. It fit him perfectly. He wore a black hat over his locs.

His lips lifted into a smirk. “Good morning, Tumy.”

I cleared my throat. “Good morning. Would you like breakfast? It’s just cheese omelets with sausage. There’s bread for toast if you want some.”

Major smiled down at me and backed away. “You not trying to kill me, are you?” I heard the chair scrape the floor a little as he pulled it out.

I released the breath I held and smirked. “You would know if I wanted to kill you. I figured since I was cooking, I would cook something for you. Think of it as a peace offering.”

His legs were slightly open as his eyes stared into mine. The temperature in the kitchen changed, and it wasn’t from the stove. For a few seconds, we just stared at each other.

Major cleared his throat. “Yeah, I can eat.” He licked his lips and sat back.
