You didn’t come find me.
My Wife
I wish I could. They wouldn’t leave me alone. Maisy will be here in a couple of days.
Me
I know. I tracked her today. Cronus is going to find her if we aren’t careful.
My Wife
That’s between them. I only said I’d keep her safe and hidden until he did find her. She’s hurt and upset.
Me
I understand.
A bottle of beer lands on the table in front of me. “Want a drink?” A girl who followed one of my prospects sits down next to me.
“Not interested,” I tell her, returning to my phone, but my wife hasn’t said anything else.
The bottle sits in front of me, getting warm, but I won’t take a drink from another woman. My brother must take pity on me because he comes over with a fresh beer and hands it to me. I take a deep swallow as I glance around the party. People are starting to hook up, and that’s my cue to get out of here.
“Your wife should be here,” Reaper says, leaning forward, his voice low.
“She wanted time for her family to get used to her being home before she told them we’re married.”
“I know. But as you know from River and me, that doesn’t always work out. Secrets have a way of surfacing.”
I hear giggling and then the chick from earlier falls into my lap. I’m about to jump up when she’s grabbed by someone I can’t make out in my rush to get the woman off me.
“Get the fuck off my husband, bitch.”
I hear my wife and can’t hide the smile. She came to me. I jump up, and the woman falls to the floor as Stormy stands over her.
“He’s not your husband. I’m going home with him tonight,” the crazy girl says.
“The fuck you say.” Stormy holds out a hand to help up the girl.
“Oh, thank you so much.”
I watch the switch flip, and I know it’s going to be bad, but I’m not going to stop it.
Stormy keeps a hold of her hand and twists her arm up her back in a move I know she learned from Riddler. My wife pushes the girl toward the entrance of the club, and I follow along behind her.
“Baby, I didn’t lead her on. She isn’t going home with me.” I try to diffuse the situation.
Stormy stops just before the door. “Don’t you baby me. I know she was talking to you earlier. Why do you think I’m here? River sent me the picture.”
I glance over at River, who shakes her head, and that’s when my brother busts out laughing.
“Karma’s a bitch, big brother.” Reaper laughs, and I remember getting him in trouble with River before their marriage came out.
My wife continues pushing the girl toward the entrance, and Ginger holds the door open for her, along with Riddler.
“Don’t come back. He’s my husband, bitch.” Stormy shoves her out the door.
I’m about to pull my girl into my arms when she’s yanked out of the way and a fist comes flying at my face. The punch takes me by surprise, and I hit the floor hard, my bell ringing and my head swimming. I hear my wife screaming and my brother yelling, but it’s my wife’s voice that gets me up and moving.
