"I’d like to, but unfortunately I have to go back to town. I’ll come back another time. My taxi has arrived. Good evening and Izy, if you need anything, you know where to find me."
"Think about what I asked you, please."
"I will. Thanks for everything. Bye." Alice says as she walks out the door.
"What did you ask her?" I ask, cleaning the flour from her cheek.
"To come and work here, for us."
"That would be great. My parents already have too many servants."
I see her staring at me, and I kiss her. "I'm going to take a shower,” she says. “Be right back."
"Okay," I reply as he gives me another kiss.
Chapter Sixteen
Isabel
Ifeel nervous: our first night in our house. Dinner is ready. The cake is cooling. I take off my apron and go upstairs. Nate is still showering. I undress and join him. I want to hug him, to love him, and to show him that I don't want to pretend that what I'm starting to feel for him isn’t true and real.
The bathroom is immersed in a cloud of steam. I open the glass door of the shower and approach him, hugging him.
"Hi, baby." He pulls me toward him by capturing my mouth. "I was hoping you’d join me."
"Oh really, why?"
"Because I missed you."
You too, very much.”
I kiss him with all the love I feel for him, and he kisses me back, making love to me, carrying me on our cloud of pleasure.
We go down to the kitchen, and Nathan helps me set the table. He uncorks a bottle of wine as the phone rings. I answer, and Dad informs me that he has a meeting tomorrow. He wants me to accompany him. Fantastic!
"Dad has something in mind. I’m not sure, but I have the vague impression that he’d like me to enter the world of politics."
"You’d have my vote,” he says, tasting the roast.
"I'm not going to go into politics, Nate. It's a world full of pitfalls, and I don't want problems. I think I'll open my own law firm."
"Whatever you choose to do, you’ll always have my support."
"Thanks."
"I got the wedding rings before I went home."
"I want to see them!" I squeak with joy.
"Mmm ... no, you can't."
"You're a bad guy."
"Yeah. Your birthday is just around the corner. Do you have any wishes that I can fulfill?"
Yes, more than one. Tell me that you’re falling in love with me and confess that you want to live there, forgetting our agreement.
"No, I already have everything I need," I answer while I load the dishwasher.
