When we get home, we go to the living room while Dad goes to sleep.

"Why this change of plans?"

"Orders from above, baby. I found out this morning."

"Where will you go?" I ask him, getting lost in his eyes.

"We don’t know yet."

"I'll miss you," I tell him, hugging him.

He hugs me back. "I’ll miss you, too."

Chapter Fifteen

Nate

Ihate schedule changes, and I hate walking away from her.

I just wish I could show her that despite all the mess our parents created, what I’m starting to feel for her is sincere and pure.

The first two houses are nice, but nothing special, Isabel and I have the same feeling. We have moved away from London and are in Charlton Saint Gils. There’s where we find it. It’s love at first sight. It's gorgeous, perfect for us, and we buy it.

You’re starting to delude yourself without having certainty.

The weeks pass quickly, and between events, the move, and the beginning of my meetings, we manage to be together very little, and I’m feeling guilty because she deserves all my time.

I finally return home. It's so strange to say “home.” I've never had anything of mine, something that belonged only to me.

I dare not imagine the house full of boxes and the work that will be there to fix everything. But it's worth it.

When I open the door, I see the house perfectly clean and tidy. I hear voices coming from the kitchen, and I head there.

"Thank you for your help, Alice. I’d have been lost or, even worse, buried in boxes."

"Well, Izy, seeing you grow up has been a pleasure, and now seeing you marry is a joy I can't explain."

"Nate is really great, and I know he’ll be a loving husband."

"Then why do you look thoughtful? You haven't thought about it."

"No, it's just that I feel so good and protected with him."

"And that's the way it should be."

I peek into the kitchen and see her cooking. She’s simply adorable—the woman of my dreams.

She’ll never be yours if you don't tell her that you love her.

"Hi, love, I'm home” I say entering the kitchen “Alice, how nice to have you here."

"Hi, Nathan. I came by to help Izy so you can relax and enjoy your time."

"Thanks, Alice. You're the best. The house looks even better without the mess of all those boxes," I tell her as I go to hug Izy. "Hi, baby."

"Hello, sweetheart."

"I'm going to take a shower, Alice. Stay with us for dinner."
