“Take a test then and erase all your doubts.”
“I'll do it, I promise, don't say anything to Logan, please. I don't want to worry him at all.”
“I won't say anything but let me know,”she says smiling
I smile back.“There won't be much to say.”
“If you say so,”she shrugs
We take the girls home, stop for a bite to eat and then go back to the jet. We have to go back to Italy. I saw Max smiling to Nellie and talking to her, too. I’ll be so lucky.
A month is long but at the same time, it flies quickly. After all, we are almost at the end of August, and if everything goes according to plan, we will finally move to the new house before October.
“Kate?”Max's voice awakens me from my thoughts. “Is everything all right?”
“Just a little tired, I’ll sleep a little during the flight, don't worry.”
“Rest, I'll wake you up as soon as we arrive.”
The following week flies in the blink of an eye. Between work and the fact that I have to pack everything, I keep busy. Logan is always a treasure and as soon as he can he does so or texts me. The work on the house is proceeding quickly and I hope to have the house sooner.
I return to Aspen with the first load of my things and with the technicians for the installation of the various systems in what will be my new office. I also go to Chicago to say hello to my girls. We speak every day and we bond more and more.
“Finally, here! It's so nice to see you, I got tired of talking on a monitor.”Nellie hugs me
“I know, I know, a few more weeks and then you will always have me in your hair,”I add laughing.
“How are you?”she give me a look
“Well, impatient to go and live in our house”
“Hmmhmm… you look tired to me.”
“In fact, it is a somewhat chaotic but manageable situation.”
“The nausea?”
“It’s still there and no, I didn't take the test because I know I'm not pregnant but I bought it Nellie, so I will remove this doubt for you.”
“Yes, yes. The bathroom is there, go!“
“Now?”I'm terrified. I have often thought about the result. It was just a fantasy. Now I start to worry a little. Having children has always been a strong desire but it also scares me.
“But weren't you the one so sure of the result? Go ahead”
I go to the bathroom. I handle that stick as if it were a bomb.
“Once done, you have to wait 10 minutes before a certain result,”she says from behind the door.
There is no need to wait that long. Two red lines appear instantly.
I leave the bathroom annoyed.“The test is not reliable.”I show her“A few seconds have passed and that's it.”
She smiles, all happy.“Holy moly. Wait!”she says, running to get the phone.
“Who are you calling?”I ask her“my cousin is a gynecologist, I have to ask her something.”I don't have time to reply that a wave of nausea overwhelms me. And now I am sure, the test is not wrong. I'm pregnant.
