“No, let me talk to her. I don't want her to think we don't need her anymore since I've entered in your lives.”
“Okay, baby.”
“Logan you never mentioned it and I would like to know, if I may, what happened with Angel's mom? I don't want her to come and claim what is mine.”
“What’s yours?”he smiles kissing my head as I nod “I met her as soon as I enrolled, she was a beautiful girl who worked at the bar at the base and started flirting with me. When I was assigned the first trip, which lasted for a month, we always called each other… Actually, it was just me calling her. And on returning home I asked her to live together.”I stiffen and he caresses my back“shortly after, she got pregnant and we were, at least I thought, happy more than ever. In the last period of the pregnancy, I discovered that she was flirting with and also seeing other people and when I asked for explanations she said that she was never willing to give up the fun and that monogamy was not for her. That she was bored and looking for something more sparkling.”He stopped and swallowed, I could feel his sadness.“After Angel was born, the DNA test results she had done without my knowledge came. I think she was terrified that she wasn't my daughter. Not that I wouldn't have loved heranyway, Angel is my guardian angel. Two days after her birth, they gave us the papers to go home and she left me in front of the hospital with the baby and just took off.”
I get up suddenly“She did what??”I ask incredulously.
“She abandoned us. After a week, I received the documents that renounced all rights on the child.”
“But what kind of person is she? God, I’m so angry, pray that she will never come across my way or I will beat her until she forgets her name.”
“I love you, Kate. Don’t worry about her. She will have other priorities than returning to a failed loser like me.”
“Are you dumb? What the hell are you talking about? You are the most incredible man in this world, Logan.”I caress his chest by depositing a kiss at the height of his heart.“And I love you so much. Does Angel know about all this?!”
“Yes, she found out in the worst way two years ago and Nellie felt so mortified. She hasn't spoken to me for days. But then I told her everything, or almost, and she understood it.”
“I had no doubts. She's a smart girl.”He nods and starts yawning. “Sorry, babe.”
“Let's go to sleep, it's late,”and we fall asleep embraced.
At 6am my cell phone rings, a message from Alec.“I saw you’re coming back tonight. If you need a few days off, take them. “
“No, thanks, I'll be in the office tomorrow morning, I'll take a week off later,”I answer and put the phone on the table.
I turn to Logan; watching him sleep is so beautiful, so serene.
Who knows what the future holds for us. I go to the bathroom, deep in thoughts. The present is fantastic even if we are far apart. But soon we will be together. I am so lost in my thoughts that I don't hear that he too has entered the shower with me. His hands startle me.
“Good morning, sunshine. Did you want to shower all by yourself?”he asks me kissing my neck. My hands get into his hair and I let my head go backwards. I close my eyes because I already know they are full of tears and he doesn't have to see it.
It was a long and intense shower. We made love several times and I have to thank the shower for hiding some of the tears.
When you would like time to stop, it runs even faster. I was lucky enough to have him with me all afternoon. He worked in the morning and I took the opportunity to pack.
At 6pm, our plane was ready for takeoff. Marcus and Logan accompanied us on the runway.
“Guys, Max, it was a pleasure to work with you, take care of her,”he says shaking his hand.“Count on us,”they answer.
Then he hugs me whispering“text me when you land. I love you so much, babe.”I squeeze him tightly and push back the tears that try to come out.“See you later, love. I love you. Ah, Logan, I left something in our room, go get it later,”I say and I give him the key. We kiss, but not a goodbye kiss but a kiss full of promise. When I was at the door I turn around and I see him wiping a tear. I smile sending him a kiss and as they close the door I start to cry. “He's stronger than me. We have to be just apart for a while,”I told myself.
While taking off, everything goes through my mind and I fall asleep.
I only wake up when we land. I greet everyone and go home. On the way, I send a message to Logan hoping he won't be sleep.
I take a sandwich and sit on the couch with Willie when Logan calls me.
“You should sleep at this hour,”I say.
“It's difficult when you're not here with me. Thanks for the shower gel and especially for the t-shirt with your perfume.”
“So it will seem that I am there with you.”
“Thanks, babe. Do you know that my heart broke seeing you cry?! I wanted to tear that hatch and hug you.”
“I know, but don't worry. You only think about coming home safely and I will think about our home and now go to rest.”
