They look at each other, and the love between them is obvious.
“Aww. Next you’ll be telling us you’re having kids,” Georgia teases.
Cam and Greg exchange a look, then Cam throws another of those grins.
“OMG you really are!” Georgia says.
Cam nods. “We’re talking about starting a family soon.”
Georgia’s bouncing in her seat. “I can’t wait for a little Greg or Cam Junior to be running around.”
“They could have a girl,” I say, then smile at the guys. “But a kid? That would be amazing.”
“Hold your horses,” Greg says. “One step at a time. We’re only talking about it at this stage. There’s a lot to consider and even if we were ready, it’s a fucking complicated process.”
“You’ll be great dads when the time’s right,” I say. I’ve known Cam since I was a kid, and I’ve known Greg for ages. I watched them fall in love, I’ve seen them deal with Greg’s accident, and lately seen how strong they are together as they deal with Cam’s family’s problems. I have no doubt they’ll nail the parenthood thing.
“Anyway,” Greg says. “Enough about us. What about you, Georgia? Any romance on the horizon?”
Her cheeks flush pink. “Maybe. I’ve gone on a few dates with Trent from the bank. He’s really sweet.”
Cam leans in. “Okay, time to give us all the deets!”
As Georgia gushes about Trent, I think about my own future here in Collier’s Creek. My friends’ dreams remind me how precious life and friendship is. It feels right being here surrounded by the people I care about most. I take a sip of my beer. Kit was right—a night out with them was exactly what I needed.
Fiona brings over our meals and conversation stops for a moment as we all get stuck into the delicious food. I look across at the open kitchen where I see Fiona’s wife, Mai, the restaurant owner. I raise my hand and she waves in return.
“Felix. You haven’t told us how things are going with Kit,” Cam eventually says. “He seems like a good guy the couple of times I’ve met him.”
I smile, like I always seem to do when thinking about Kit. “He is. I’ve really enjoyed getting to know him these past months.”
“He’s certainly come out of his shell since he met you,” Georgia adds. “When he first arrived in town, Kit hardly said boo to anyone. He holed up in the cabin with his writing, right, Felix?”
I put down my knife and fork. “He’s been working to a deadline, but he’s let me drag him out a time or two. We went to Sweetwater Falls and since then we’ve been exploring the area when the weather allows.”
“And what do you do on the days when it’s too cold and blustery outside?” Georgia asks. There’s a glint in her eye that I know only too well.
“Board games, Georgia, we play board games,” I reply, trying to keep a straight face. “Can’t say I recommend playing Scrabble against an author, though, or any word game, actually.”
She places her hand on mine where it rests on the table. “You really like him, don’t you?”
“I really do.” My chest fills with warmth just thinking about him—how he lights up when we’re trying new things, his willingness to give line dancing a go, the way he looks at me when we’re debating any topic, listening to my every word. He makes me feel special. Cherished.
“I’m so glad you’ve found happiness again,” Cam says. “Now I don’t feel so bad dragging you back to our little neck of the woods.”
Greg laughs. “Next you’ll be claiming matchmaker rights.”
“Well, if I didn’t ask Felix to manage CC’s then he’d never run into Kit when he bought his morning coffee, then—”
“Umm, guys. Kit’s staying at the cabins. Don’t you think Felix would have run into him there?”
Cam huffs and waves a hand. “Semantics. Anyway, all the matters is that Felix has found love.”
I grin at that. I might not have said the words, but love is absolutely what I feel in my heart. Big fucking love. I swallow heavily, emotions threatening to overwhelm. I feel so damn much that it’s going to nearly kill me if it’s taken away.
“Felix. What’s wrong?”
I look across and see concern on my friends’ faces. Georgia squeezes my hand again. “Are you okay?”
