“Worth a shot,” Vic said.

“It wouldn’t be the first time we’ve been Eskimo brothers,” Eddie said, with a grin.

They reached out and high-fived one another.

“Stop,” I said.“If either of you thought you were getting laid tonight, you won’t be now.Look.Maybe we can approach this like.A family situation, sort of.We’re all one big family.”

“Oh yes, perfect,” Eddie said.“A midnight cruise with my girlfriend and her boyfriend.”

“Open salty air, a missing crew, and a Priest onboard to judge us for our sins,” Vic said.

“I don’t think you’re treating this like you should be.You have to try, at least. We’re all going to be in close quarters. It’ll be like an adventure.”

“I’m the Tank,” Eddie said.

“DPS,” Vic said.

“What are you talking about?”

“HOH,” Eddie said.Pronounced like ‘Hoe.’I blinked and shook my head.

“Hearts of Harkness,” Vic said.

“It’s a video game,” Eddie said.“An MMO.”

“Everyone has certain roles,” Vic continued.

“I’m a Tank, which means I draw most of the attacks,” Eddie said.“Vic’s DPS, which is basically the damage dealer. All we need now is a healer.”

“I can bring sandwiches,” I said.“Maybe some blood pudding.”

“Brother Al will do in a pinch,” Vic said.

“Yeah, I mean.He is a Priest.Sort of.”

“You can’t possibly be saying he’s some kind of remote distance vampire medic,” I said.

“Well, no, but he knows a lot of that traditional stuff.Blood crafting.Flesh sculpting,” Eddie said.“Great for patch-ups.”

“I saw him turn into a wolf once,” Vic said.

“Really?”Eddie asked.“I saw him get embarrassed in an awkward luncheon once. He’d drank something that didn’t sit well with him.He lets out this noise—you should have seen the Headsman’s face.Squeaked like a balloon.Anyway, I blinked and next thing you know he’s gone, there’s just this mist floating around.Swirled down a drainpipe and far away.Hard to come back from that one with a straight face.”

“I thought Nagisa had the whole shifting thing, but I think they’re similar bloodlines.”

“So he’s a Druid,” I said.

They both looked at me and grinned.

“Yeah, sounds like it,” Vic said.“I knew I liked you for some reason.”

They both gave me a kiss on each cheek. At least they were getting along—for now—though I had to admit, watching them be teenage boys about a video game was a bit of a lady boner killer.Still.If they were bonding, that meant they weren’t fighting with each other.

This bodes well,I thought.

I would later come to regret thinking that.
