Bruno

“Don't let her fall asleep, Dante. Keep her awake at all costs!” I shout to my brother as I get into the pilot's seat. He replied something I couldn’t catch but doesn’t repeat. I’m assuming he was acknowledging what I told him. Good. Now I can concentrate on getting us out of here.

I haven’t flown a helicopter in a million years, let’s just hope I’m not extremely rusty.

I don’t have to go through the checklist right now, but Zahir said they used this for emergencies so I’ll assume they have kept this aircraft in tip-top condition, plus the minute I fire up the engine they will swarm us.

I press the boost pump button to deliver fuel to the engine and start the ignition process.

It only took a single try to get the engine going. Gotta love having a little luck every now and then.

“Bruno! They are coming!” shouts Dante.

My eyes scan the garden quickly and I see Kaled heading towards us with a group of at least twenty men, all armed to the teeth.

As the rotor is getting more and more momentum, I secure the passenger seat belt, I wouldn’t want it to flap around and crack someone’s skull should the door bust open.

“They're coming!” Amira yelps.

Fuck. Are we going to make it? I've gotta get us off the ground, I just have to!

We are taking small arms fire to the hull; I’m not too concerned about that right now because they’re firing from a distance far enough for the bullets to lose power, but as they get closer…

I engage the clutch, check the gauges, they all look good.

Time to get the fuck out of here.

I pull the collective and the helo lifts off.

“We’re moving!” shouts Amira with an exited voice.

I look down and I can see Kaled's angry eyes, he’s waving his arms and giving orders.

Too late, idiot, I'm taking them away from here.

The mansion is getting smaller and smaller under our feet. I was able to lift this thing off the ground, now I gotta make sure we get somewhere safe.

Not so rusty after all.

“Keep yourself seated at all times guys, we’re getting out of here!” I shout with a smile on my face.

They don't say anything back, but I can picture the smile on their faces.

“Sarah!” I scream with joy. “I bet you’ve never thought our first helicopter ride was gonna look like this!”

She doesn’t answer.

I turn around for a few seconds and find her motionless, pale body. Dante is still covering her wound, and I catch his worrisome face.

“Sarah!” I call for her while dividing my attention between her and what I have in front of us. “Damn it! Wake her up, I don’t care what you do, but wake her up!”

She can't be dead, can she? It's not possible.

Dante starts saying her name, takes hold of her shoulders to shake her body, but she doesn't respond.

Oh, God, please no.

“Dante, check her pulse.” I scream as I keep my eyes forward and try to control my fast-beating heart.
