“Cool, thank you. How did you know my size?” I ask as I take off my shoes and change into my new comfortable pair of slippers.
“There's nothing I don't know about your body, Sarah,” he answers as if it was obvious.
“You must stop making those comments Bruno, I’m losing my focus.” I say honestly.
I get up and walk a few steps trying on the slippers, once I approve them, I hide my shoes under a bed, when I turn to address Bruno, I find him pressed against my body.
“I love breaking your focus, I can't wait to break your focus for a whole week,” his fingers are stroking my arms. He’s feeling my scars again; he likes to do that.
Bruno takes my jaw and brings it directly to his mouth, giving me a deep and needed kiss.
“That is a new level of distraction, save it for when we get home.”
He smiles at me and takes my hand.
“Ready?”
“Always.” I answer with a smile on my face.
He opens the hatch, and we start sprinting across the massive garden. The trees on the left become clearer as we get closer to them.
Just as Bruno predicted, the bullets start flying past us like somehow we are in a fucking war zone. I can feel the thud of the bullets impacting on the tree trunks around me.
“Keep moving! Stay low! Don't stop!” he shouts while running right behind me.
I'm not going to.
We're both all too familiar with this type of situation. He and I, going to some place together, while bullets whiz past our ears. It's a great metaphor for our life now that I think about it. Just the two of us, with nothing more than our love for each other and willpower.
But my willpower is not enough. A bullet reaches me and goes straight into my stomach.
Fuck!
Although it’s a single wound I simply cannot continue, my body becomes paralyzed and I fall to the ground with no care or elegance.
“No!” I hear Bruno say as he stops by my side and tries to pick me up.
“Run!” I shout. “Get out of here!”
The bullets keep floating around us, but they stop when a counterattack starts suddenly from the woods. Bruno picks me up from the ground and runs with me in his arms.
Dante, using the gun Bruno had given him before, for every bullet he shoots, a guard falls to the ground.
Not bad for a rookie.
Bruno steps into the woods and stands behind a huge tree. He quickly takes his jacket off and puts pressure on the wound.
I can feel my eyesight go in and out as if a camera had the zoom broken.
“Hang in there, you crazy bitch!”Life yells at me nervously.
I become cold, and my body begins to shake.
“Bruno, help him.” I growl as I hold his hand that presses on the wound.
The sounds are fading away.
“Shut up, Sarah, just shut up!” He screams nervously.
