I already knew this. The minute I saw how Dante looked at Amira it was all too obvious. It's the same way I look at Sarah, that’s when I knew for sure we had a really good chance to pull this.
“Do you love her?”
Dante looks at me for a few moments, but then he looks down.
“I understand, brother. Let's get her out of here.”
“I'm in your debt then.” He takes that ridiculous bow again.
God, I hope I can work on that later.
I quietly open the door, spying on the crowd of people I saw before, all still there, living their frivolous lives.
“How are we going to get there without being stopped?” Sarah whispers in my ear.
“Easy.” I turn to see her beautiful face and I wink.
I open the door and look around, there it is, a little red lever, ready to play with me.
“FIRE! FIRE!” I yell wildly as I pull it down. Sprinklers start pouring water all over the place, sirens screeching, their alarm noise so loud it’s deafening. Not two seconds pass and already all the guests and the staff who were assisting them are running around.
Chaos, my best ally.
Dante walks with a very subtle and elegant step. I hold Sarah by the wrist and keep her close.
I will not let her out of my sight ever again, especially while we are in this place.
We follow his pace, going against a river of guests who are trying to evacuate while panicking accordingly. Dante goes straight to a door covered by a big white blanket; it has some golden tassels hanging. He looks in his pocket for a tiny golden key and opens the secret door as if he were the owner of the house.
The room is already soaked by the fire sprinklers, there are coat racks and brightly colored clothes hanging in an organized way, but everything is ruined by the water.
“This way,” Dante points to the next door. “There must be at least four guards in there, I don't know how you plan to knock them down.”
“You overestimate their ability to think straight under pressure,” I say with a smirk.
I put on my worst face of fear and open the door.
The guards are walking around, talking on a sort of green cell phone, everyone turns to look at me, except the slaves, who were sitting on the floor with their eyes on the ground.
“Didn't you hear?! The building is on fire!” I scream, they all look at me clueless. “Run!”
“We can't leave them unsupervised.”
And there's the leader.
“Fuck them! If we don't get out now, we're all going to die!”
They watch each other hesitate for a few seconds until the leader yells.
“I have a daughter; I won't put my life at risk.” He walks towards me and runs out the door, seconds later the three remaining ones come out behind him, leaving the slaves alone.
I walk into the room, there are no chairs or decorations, it's a place left in time.
I gently try to push the slaves towards the door, but they don't move, some of them even move away from me, they seem to be drugged.
I don't understand!
“Run! Run without looking back! You have the chance to see your families again,” they look at each other in disbelief and as they collectively stand up and leave, Sarah and Dante enter the room, forcing them all to sit back down just by showing up.
