Daremo’s body drops to the ground.
I killed him.
Chapter Thirty-Three
SARAH
My right knee presses against his chest, stopping every single move coming from him. The barrel of my side gun is inside his mouth, our gazes locked. I took him down as soon as he saw my picture and turned to let his buddies know who I am and where I am from.
Apart from the waves crashing against the hull and this guy with a gun in his mouth, we can’t hear any mumbling, no one is talking. Complete silence falls between the boats.
I am not sure if they saw me taking him down, of course.
If they didn’t, it is a fucking miracle… it probably took them by surprise, because they never expected a woman to stand up for herself, let alone take one of them down.
Assholes. Fucking misogynistic assholes.
“Hey! Don’t blame them. Not even I expected you to do something. I mean, you are pretty pathetic.”
Go back to whatever hole you were hiding in, Life.
Of course, I am wrong….
Everyone brings their guns up. Some are pointed at the Frenchman and some at me. The Bedouin raises his AK and point it at them while I’m still holding down this idiot.
Silence is over now. They are all yelling, and it sounds like gibberish to me. The Frenchman yells back.
“Translate!” I shout to him.
“What?” he replies.
“Fucking translate what they are saying!”
“They are threatening to kill us!”
“Yeah, I got that part from all the yelling and the guns pointed at us, genius!” I say.
“Then, what do you want me to translate?”
“There’s a reason they are not shooting at us. It’s probably got to do with this guy I’m holding down!”
“Maybe. They are yelling for us to let him go!”
“Like hell! Calm them down!” I order, inspecting the guy from head to toe. I already took the passport from him, but I haven’t found the letter.
“How do you want me to do that?”
“Tell them I’ll fucking kill him if they don’t stop.”
Here!I find the letter and my phone and put them in my pocket.
The Frenchman tells them exactly what I asked.
It doesn’t work. Somehow, they become angrier.
“That didn’t wo–” he starts.
“Yeah, I noticed!” I shove a dirty rag inside the guy’s mouth, stand him up, then take cover behind him. My gun held against his right temple; he can barely stand still. I hit him too hard on the ear and now he’s dizzy, his balance is shit right.
