“What? No! No way! We are done.”

“Thought that much.” Rage laughs. “There’s a wig in there. No one wants you to lose that pretty hair of yours, kiddo.”

Carter sighs, clearly frustrated.

“While you’re in Europe, you must maintain a low profile, AKA don’t draw any kind of attention to yourself. You have to be a shadow. I left a few extra things in your go-bag to help with this purpose. Once you reach the airport in Madrid, go to the nearest hotel. From there, we are going to sync our watches and test our comms.”

“I might be new to all this, but I know a few things about blending in. Give me a little credit.” My voice is tremulous. Who I’m kidding? I’m scared as shit.

“No one is trying to undermine you. We are just covering all the bases. Remember, do not talk to anyone, do not divulge your name unless you are talking to someone with authority.”

“Got it.”

“Questions?” Rage asks with his big arms crossed and his eyes fixed on me.

“Yeah…”

“Let’s hear it.”

“How am I supposed to cover the tattoos on my back?” I challenge him.

“Well, that’s my fucking job,” Rage quickly replies with a smirk on his beautiful face.

Chapter Fifteen

CARTER

My last conversation with Bruno was a week ago, and he didn’t sound so good.

“Cuz.” Bruno’s voice came through the headset.

He always called me early in the morning, not that it bothered me or anything, but sometimes it was hard to pay attention to his needs, especially if I had a rough night.

“Hey…” I whispered with a hoarse voice. The bottle of vodka was still right next to me and so was the woman I fucked last night. What was her name? Cindy? Mindy? Fuck, I’d simply called her ‘beautiful’ and brought her home. “How are you, Cuz?”

“Well, you sound like shit. What happened?” he asked with genuine concern.

“Busy night, but don’t worry, I handled it.” He could tell, he’s not an idiot. In fact, he is a fucking boss when it comes to reading me. Hell, not just me, everyone.

“All right…” he replied dryly; he hadn’t bought what I said.

An awkward silence ensued; this was weird.

“What’s wrong, Cuz?” I stood up and walked away from the bed. I didn’t want to wake my one-night stand.

“Nothing, I was just wondering if you knew anything about her,” he suddenly asked.

I sighed loudly, tired of this game we had.

“What?” he asked, clearly annoyed by my silence.

“We’ve been through this so many times already. You told me to never give you information about her, even if you begged. You even warned me about it. You said that you might threaten me and that I should still refuse to say anything. Remember?”

“I don’t give a fuck about what I said! Tell me what you know, now,” he shouted.

“Do-you-remember?” I yelled back.

“Fuck! Why do you always have to be such a pain in the ass!”
