She puts her hand on the wheel and I double-check my seatbelt.“Ava, put the car back in the garage.Stay off the street and hire a driver. We’re all safer that way.”

“You’re probably right.”

“I know I’m right.”

“It’s always an adventure with you, Ava.”

“Yeah it is.”She looks at me, grinning.

Both of us laugh as she drives off once again to take me home and I jokingly say, “Slow down, mad woman!Baby on board.”

She gets me home in one piece, making sure I get in the house safely before she gets back in her car and leaves.I walk into the bedroom and see Nick fully dressed, sleeping on his stomach on the bed.He looks too cute; I don’t get to see him like this a lot.I’m usually the one sleeping, and he’s watching me.I run my fingers through his thick, black hair, playing with it gently, and kiss him awake. He rolls on his back, opening his eyes with a sexy, half-asleep look and an even sexier raspy voice to match.

“Hey, you.”

“Hey,” I mimic his voice and continue playing with his hair.“You were waiting up for me?”

“Yeah.I told you to call me so I could come get you.”

“Ava drove me home.”

“Was she driving like she was in the Thunderdome?”

The corners of my lips twitch, lifting in a half smile.“She kept to the speed limit. No Thunderdome antics.”I bite down on my lips to cover my little white lie.My man’s at peace tonight, I want to keep it this way.My excitement quota is filled for a month thanks to Ava.

“How’s my baby?”He puts his hand on my stomach.

I lie down beside him on my side, my head on his shoulder.“She’s trying to kick her way out of me.”And to prove I’m not lying, she lands a sharp kick to my side under Nick’s hand.

“He’s going to be the kicker on the football team.”

“Not giving up on the boy, are you?”He kisses me on the head and rubs my stomach.

“You’ll see. We’re not naming him Jace.”

“We’ll see about that if we have a boy.”

“Cat, are you listening tome?”

“Yes.At the shower we’re having mini-Tennessee barbecued pulled pork sandwiches, mini-crème brûlée, baby macaroni and cheese pies with three different cheeses, along with an assortment of other baby themed foods.”I put my phone down and go over to the door.

“Who’s at the door?I didn’t hear the doorbell ring.”

I sit back down and smile.“Chris texted me, he was in the neighborhood. He’s coming up.”She’s not as excited as I thought she would be.

“Why?Is he taking Mr.Ed out for another walk?”

“You need to stop it.And Mr.Ed was a male.”

“I saw them last night—completely ruined my evening—at the opening of the new bar restaurant I told you I was going to.”

Interesting, she’s been here a while and hasn’t mentioned it once.“Why didn’t you mention it?”

Chris walks in the door, all smiles.“What’s up, ladies?”He kisses me and salutes Ava.She rolls her eyes way back.I silently laugh at her exaggerated eye roll.

“Except for one part of the night, it wasn’t mention worthy.”

“What wasn’t mention worthy?”Chris asks.
