“Okay. I don’t know what I’m doing or how to do this, but here we go. Elan’s interested in you.”

She startles. “What?”

I nod. “He has been for a while, but he’s heard about your rules…”

She shakes her head. “Those aren’t my rules. Those are Ellen’s rules. I don’t follow them. Ever.”

“I knew it!” I do a little happy dance. She looks at me as if I’ve lost my mind. “I knew you weren’t like Ella.”

She laughs. “It’s Ellen, but you already knew that.”

“I do. It’s more fun to call her Ella,” I admit.

“She hates it when you do.”

I laugh. “I know. That’s what makes it so fun.” I pause. “About Elan…”

“I’ve only spoken to him in class and at a few functions. He seems nice.”

“He is. He’s so nice. And don’t you think he’s attractive? I mean, those chocolate eyes. Yum, right?”

Gianna smiles. “You don’t have to sell him to me. I’ve seen how he looks. He’s friendly.”

“So, would you maybe be interested in going out with him sometime?” I ask. What the hell am I doing? Elan’s going to kill me.

“Sure,” she answers, and I just stare at her as my heart drops into my stomach. Is that hurt? Jealousy? Envy?

I mentally slap myself. This is a good thing, Jillian. Elan deserves to be happy. He deserves to know if Gianna is the one for him or just a crush.

“I… how do I do this? I mean, he obviously has no idea I’m talking to you about this. So, what do I do? How do I do this? Do I have him ask you out?” I am talking so fast I’ll be surprised if she understands a word I’m saying.

“I could ask him if he would like to sit together at the football game Friday,” she proposes.

“That would be awesome.”

“I’m guessing you don’t want him to know about this conversation?” she asks.

“Not unless you have to divulge it. If it causes problems, keeping it quiet, then feel free to tell him.”

She nods. “Okay.”

I nod back. “Okay.”

She turns to leave but pauses. “And, Jillian?”

I look over to her.

“You’re a very good friend. I hope we can become friends, too.”

I lift a brow. “Really? Even though Ella hates me?”

She nods again. “Even though.”

“I’d like that.”

With that, she turns and leaves me standing in the empty bathroom.

“What have I done?” I ask my reflection in the mirror.
